SWAC Names Volleyball Weekly Honors

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has released its weekly volleyball honors for the first two weeks of conference play.

Week One Honors

Offensive Player of the Week
Corrina Cox, S, Jackson State

In 19 games since the start of the season, Cox has tallied 120 kills and 13 services aces along with 24 kills, two blocks and 36 digs.

Defensive Player of the Week
Tamika Newman, OH, Prairie View A&M

Newman has been one of the more solid players as the conference season has begun.  In 23 games, she has 69 kills (3.00 / game).  But defensively, she has 18 total blocks, and 14 digs.

Newcomer of the Week
Kaymle Lowndes, MB, Southern

The freshman began her collegiate career with an outstanding weekend.  She had 44 kills, 12 services aces, seven digs and 10 blocks during the Hampton Tournament.  She tallied 14 kills, two aces and two blocks agianst South Carolina State.

Week Two Honors

Offensive Player of the Week
Shatara Baydak, OH, Mississippi Valley State

In five matches, she recorded 51 kills, 10 service aces and four blocks along with 54 digs and six assists.  The 5-foot-8 senior from Shoal Lake, Manitoba, tallied 37 kills, six aces, 42 digs and three assists during the Central Arkansas Tournament.  Her play garnered her UCA All-Tournament Honors.

Defensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Knaus, DS, Mississippi Valley State

In four matches, she registered 84 digs along with five assists, four aces and two kills.  Against Centenary, she tallied 29 digs, four aces and an assist.  The 5-9 senior from Lanigan, Saskatchewan also had 22 digs and two assists at Central Arkansas.

Rookie of the Week
Valencia Wise, S, Alcorn State

In two matches played, she finished with 64 assists, four service aces, 15 digs, six kills and seven blocks.  The 5-foot-8 freshman from Belle Rose, La., registered 37 assists, an ace, four assisted blocks and eight digs against Hampton.
