Yahoo on JSU's Band

Last year it was the Jukebox, this year it was the boom. You gotta love those SWAC bands!!! We may dog each other out...but when we play schools outside of the SWAC, WE BRING THE NOISE!!!

Wow....."some little band"....and "I think they were trying to prove something???....wow...My boy was at this game and he said the Sonic Boom turned NOA OUTT!!! Great job Boom. He also has some video clips of the Boom and is supposed to post them on marching network.

NOAH AND THE BOOM

Count Florida's Joakim Noah as one who is a fan of Jackson State's "Sonic Boom of the South" pep band.

Walking through the corridor to his media interviews after the game, Noah shook hands with a few of the JSU tuba players.

"You guys were playing so loud at timeouts I couldn't hear a thing that was going on," Noah said. "You guys were so crazy and loud."

Was Cody Ray trying to get negative at the end of the article?

I sent him the following message:

If you do a little research you will find out the greatness of this band and other band in their conference. They have performed at presidential events, diplimatic events worldwide, superbowls, and NCAA football national championship games and parades. If you get a chance to see one of those bands play anywhere it would be a site to see. In the state of florida, Bethune Cookman, and Florida A&M bands are similiar in style to Jackson States. As a matter of fact FAMU, played during the half time show of this past years superbowl. I'm not trying to attack you or anything, but I would like you to get a chance to see why you see why "They're a little out of control, a little overdone, like they're trying to prove something."

Other schools in thier conference include Texas Southern University, Southern University, and Grambling State University which are some of the world wide known bands who are featured every where.

Orlando White

I actually tried to send him a message that was greater in detail about all the swac bands and the history and why we are a little out of control, but I accidently erased it. So I had to send him this watered down one. I'll give yall his response if he ever does....

SWAC BANDS ALWAYS SHOW OUT.....THEY PUT FUN BACK INTO THE GAME....WHITE SCHOOLS AREN'T USED TO THAT....IT WAS THE SAME WAY WHEN ALCORN PLAYED STANFORD.....THE BAND SHOWED OUT AND THE PEOPLE THERE LOVED IT..............

It was the same thing when GSU played at UH. Even though GSU could've played 10 times better at UH, the white folks still loved it...

The Boom must have been rocking...My boss who is white sent me a message from her blackberry saying that "JSU band kicks ass and they (the crowd) needed that pick up"

Are we STILL surprised by this. Every year, that's what people remember most about the SWAC representative, that the team is usually getting the brakes beat off em while the band is highly entertaining.

I don't mean it in a negative manner. But we already know our bands are entertaining. It's part of who we are. When have you EVER known a SWAC band to go play in front of ofays and not have them enjoy themselves.

Yeah, some will say things about HOW the band plays. We push accepted musical practices in our bands. And many of them think that because we play the way we play in our bands, we can't go get on some standard repertiore and hold our own. Just cuz we don't, that doesn't mean we can't.

Congrats JSU. I'm sure you all did a great job. I remember the feeling when I was a part of the PV pep band that watched Kansas utterly destroy us. But when the band did their halftime feature, a roar went up and folks was rushing to get from the concession stands to see what was going on at HALFTIME of a game. LOL.....That experience is priceless. We even made CNN.

Why would you e-mail and try to educate the writer. It was a bball player and UF band member who said something that could be taken as negative... The writer gave the BOOM nothing but props.

You shole is right Tigerpride. Bruh, you sent your letter of complaint to the WRONG individual. The writer was the one giving the Sonic Boom respect and admiration. Read that article again 10-4?

So, Boom, its a cultural thing? I suppose you could make a stretch and say that marching bands and sexual suggestiveness go together. There is a time and place for everything....to see swimsuited girls pelvic-thrusting/dry hunching is more for night clubs and not a family oriented sporting event. Have you ever seen a male dog around a female dog in heat? That is the same thing the dancers are doing....great stuff.....especially for our children to see....great role models!!!

Unknown, it pays to be VERY careful where you get your information from.
I know of this flyboy character. Anything that's written positively about JSU completely goes against his beliefs. Hickville, Mississippi if you get my drift.:vomit:
The J-Settes didn't even perform in New Orleans to begin with. Shows you how much he knows about the school and pep band.
Secondly, they're perhaps the classiest dancers in the SWAC.
If you said something negative about Ole Miss, he wouldn't take too kindly to that at all.

Surely you jest.
