walking with weights

I wanna be your lover...
I do this and am seeing dramatic results in my arms and cardio/stamina. BUT someone just told me it wasn't good for me. Stresses the joints. Any ideas.
 

It does put stress on your joints, well at least the knees. When I was growing up, kids would wear ankle weights, but now you can buy these vest that you can slide weights into, which do the same thing.
