Tinsley Takes First Place at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, TX ? Before and after he races, Michael Tinsley doesn?t have much to say. That?s understandable. His performances speak for themselves.

Today, a crowd of 22,500 at the University of Texas? Mike A. Myers Stadium gave Tinsley a standing ovation after watching the JSU standout blow away his competition in the Men?s 400 M hurdles.

Tinsley finished second ahead of the field which included athletes from LSU, Cal, USC, Auburn, Hampton and Houston. By doing so, he clinched his second Texas Relays Championship and set a stadium and meet record in the event.

?This is one tremendous feat for Michael and for our program,? said head coach Edmond Donald. ?Once again he?s elevated our program into the spotlight on a national stage.?

Tinsley?s time of 48.70 was also good enough to set a national record in the event.

?It was amazing,? said Donald. ?You had to see it. When you have a guy to finish three seconds ahead of the second place finisher, that?s awesome.?

Off to a great start in the outdoor season, the JSU men?s track and field squad has already qualified for NCAA Regionals in five events (400M Hurdles, 400M Dash, Long Jump, 800M Run and the 4X400 Relay).

The flying Tigers will be in action at home next Wednesday as they host the Martin Epps Invitational meet on campus. Field events will begin at 12:00.

I was at the meet and talked with him before and after the race. He really made me proud!

GO MIKE T! GO JSU! GO SWAC!

At the relays their is was you woould call a "HBCU" section that sits around the first curve (starting blocks) that takes up just about the entire section. Whenever there is a SWAC/MEAC school that's running we always cheer them on. We were all devestated that Michael Tinsley (anchor leg) and the third leg dropped the stick on the mile relay.
