<MCC STORY>ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The Southern University softball team snapped a tie with a seven-run fourth inning and advanced to the Southwestern Athletic Conference softball tournament semifinals by defeating Prairie View A&M 11-4 Friday.

With the score knotted 3-3, Southern erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Jaguars (30-10) produced only two hits in the decisive rally and took advantage of three Prairie View errors.

Southern senior Cashara Edgerson delivered the first big blow with a pinch-hit, two-run double. La'Kisha Kenebrew produced another two-run double with two outs that padded Southern's lead to 10-3.

The Lady Jaguars jumped ahead quickly when junior Jayme Roberts slapped a three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning. The Pantherettes responded by tying the game on Kimberly Fernandez's three-run homer in the fourth. "We came to the tournament with our focus of taking it one pitch and one game at a time," Southern coach Nancy Marshall said. "When Prairie View hit the home run and tied the score, I think our young ladies decided that they'd better start playing a little harder. That was the key to the big inning."

I really dont know. I was at the game - heard a lot of cheering, nothing really negative. The cheering did get pretty loud - there were a lot of students there. However you can't expect the students to not support their team. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Yeah, me too. I was at the game and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary when it comes to cheering and supporting your home team. Had the game been in Baton Rouge it would have been the other way around so get over it.

Congrats Valley.

I don't think she was refering to the valley fans, I think she was refering to her players being distracted.
