What a shame....

Report: Williams tests positive for fourth time

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has violated the NFL's substance abuse policy for a fourth time and is facing a one-year suspension for the positive drug test, Denver television station KDVR reported on Sunday.

The Miami Herald, citing two sources of its own, confirmed the station's report that Williams had failed the test, but neither media outlet would say which substance Williams used. The Herald also said a league source would not confirm the report.

Williams has tested positive for marijuana three times and served a four-game suspension when he returned to the NFL last season following a one-year retirement.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban told ESPN he was not aware of the report and would not comment, citing the confidential nature of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene declined to comment when reached by the Herald on Sunday night.

"Because of the confidential nature of the league's substance abuse policy, we can't comment on any aspect of that program," Greene told the newspaper.

Williams was also fined the equivalent of four weeks' salary after his second and third violations of the NFL policy, in December 2003 and the 2004 offseason.

Williams abruptly retired from the NFL in July 2004 and the Dolphins fell apart, losing their first six games and finishing 4-12 -- their worst season since the 1960s.

At the time of his return, Williams was ordered to pay the Dolphins $8.6 million for breaching his contract, although there has been no financial resolution between him and the team. He was scheduled to be paid the league minimum of $540,000 last season, but was docked four games' pay due to his league-mandated suspension and was fined another four games in pay, reducing his take to $285,882.

Williams' base salaries for the two coming seasons are $545,000 and $670,000, the minimum for a player (he entered the league in 1999) of his NFL tenure.

Motivated partly by the need for a paycheck, he accepted Saban's offer to return for the 2005 season. When he reported at the start of training camp, Williams publicly apologized for the impact caused by his retirement and teammates unanimously embraced his return.

The Dolphins finished the 2005 season 9-7, winning their last six games. Williams gained 743 yards and scored six touchdowns.

In six seasons with New Orleans and Miami, Williams has 7,097 yards on 1,757 carries -- four yards per carry -- and 47 rushing touchdowns His best season was in 2002 with Miami, when he gained 1,853 yards in 383 carries and ran for 16 TDs.

That damn Ricky cant get away from that hippy lettuce huh! That is sad for an athletic to get paid like they do and dont quit.:kaioken:

I think you guys are missing the point here.

The only reason Ricky Williams came back to the Dolphins is because he knew he had to pay back that $8 million by quiting. However, now that he is back he simply flunked the test...but guess what, he doesn't owe the dolphins squat because he has been suspended by the NFL.

I maybe wrong about the particulars regarding his contract, but I don't think I am too far off base.

I guess what I am trying to say is...Ricky played the Dolphins.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

How can we be so sure that he actually "puffed the magic dragon" this time? It could be some other substance that was banned from the league substance abuse policy.

This is absolutely correct.

He didn't want to play football then and I'm sure that never changed. He just played the NFL for the fool.

Actually he didn't play anyone but himself (again). The 8.6 million was what the Dolphins were awarded based on Ricky breaching his contract. Even though he returned the following year, his contract was still breached and he still owes the team that money. In my opinion, I don't think they ever really had plans of going after the money. They just wanted to force him to return, and they had every intention of trading him before the start of next season and washing their hands of the entire matter. But now that he's gonna be suspended again, I would look for the Dolphins to go after that money.

BTW, he did indeed fail a drug test (opposed to missing one, which is considered the same thing), but the drug was not marijuana.

Steroids.....Perhaps.

But I'll believe it wasn't marijuana when the 'substance' is officially identified. I just think Ricky got a problem with 'The Man' trying to keep him and his girl friend 'Mary Jane' apart.

Ricky is very commented to the smoke. The good news is that he has paper. He waited until he got paid before he started acting up, unlike Clairette dumb azz.

He might have been smart to get in and play this year only to get suspended so he wouldn't owe the Dolphin's squat, but there is a bigger picture... Ricky was already on medication before he left the Saints for Depression and socializum problems or whateva he was trippin on when he was in the NO, the doc may have changed his perscript, to some type of experimental crap and that might be what happened.... the dude had to take 10 random tests a months, thats 1 every 3 days, that is a lot of scrutiny.... its just a theory yall, just a theory

Ricky is not a waste, and the test was not positive for marijuana. Ricky is appealing the ruling and just may win. Some people are always in a rush to assume the worst.

Ricky Williams is still a fool!
Only a foolish person would not assume the worst about him when you consider his history.
