In the 2023-2024 Academic Progress Rate (APR) cycle, several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) achieved notable academic progress for their football teams. The APR measures the academic performance of student-athletes, including eligibility, graduation, and retention rates.

Top Performers:
  • Grambling State University: 954
  • Prairie View A&M University: 951
  • Alcorn State University: 948
  • Alabama State University: 941
  • Texas Southern University: 943

HBCUs don't offer basket weaving or cooking for special purposes degrees. 😂 I know some functional illiterates in Huntsville who played for SEC schools with degrees from the SEC. 😂

APR has very little to do with “academics” and more to do with retainment. So the title is misleading. If someone quits the team and doesn’t enroll in another school… you fugged… don’t matter if they were a straight A student.

With this "pay for play" reality of college sports, the transfer portal and the larger athletic programs breaking away from the university to form LLC's......why is APR still a metric? And it seems to still disproportionately affect HBCU's...

Of course it does.

Because how many not ready for college players do you recruit versus those who go to PWI and D2-3.

Along with how many straight A players are being shown the door for that player who got walking papers from a PWI especially a top PWI? Who might not catch on at another school?

Like DaHill said how many kids have not caught on with another school? Especially from Valley? Remember how many of our kids were being recruited by other schools? For some this was the only school and others the school that wanted them got someone else.
