Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team's leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

With cooperation from their stars and role players Udonis Haslem and Chris Andersen, who also possess player options for next season, the Heat could open up in excess of $50 million in cap space this summer and have the most financial flexibility in the league. The only Heat player locked into place for next season is Norris Cole at a salary of $2 million, though Riley will have to contend with a handful of cap holds for pending free agents as well as their upcoming first-round pick in the draft later this month (No. 26 overall).

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

I wanna see it happen so the heat can have a chance of winning 8-9 championships in a row.

He deserves a ring. Plus this is not the NBA of past years. Guys want to win and if a team is not supplying the tools to get to where they want to be then they go to teams that will try.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

This stacking up superstars is pathetic....I want melo and Durant to get rings but not by joining up with each other or joining 2-3 other superstars. This would be horrible, you would basically have 1 team that damn near has a monopoly on the championship.

Well, the lakers and celtics did this in the 80's.

This is about money and winning. If a player is a free agent then what's the problem with him going to a team with the leadership that supports what the player wants to do? Also it's a job. How many of you would stay with a company that is not willing to support you goals and aspirations?

If the Miami Heat players want to restructure their contracts to get Melo that is saying a hell of a lot about their belief in becoming the ultimate dynasty. The New York Knicks screwed up when they did not give Pat Riley what he wanted. Now he's building the Dynasty he always wanted.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

The Heat ain't gon' win nuthin' with Mello. They think defense is a problem now? Mello wouldn't know defense if it camped on his front yard.

San Antonio is exposing Miami. That motion offense is killing them. There is only one LeBron James on that team. Motion offense and the shooters S.A. has is giving the Heat fits.

LeBron said it best, you can't focus on just one player with the Spurs because the are more the complete team and I have said it over and over, D-Wade is hurt and is giving all he can. A healthy Wade would really help James.

Re: Heat eyeing Melo?

And who's knees are D-Wade are going to borrow? Because he is not the same player anymore.

Somebody needs to get in his ear and advise him to go out in 2nd place and retire (or possibly go to Chicago and end it there for the last year or two off the bench)

As I said before, if Lebron think he is carrying a lot of dead weight now in MIA (karma is real ain't it. That's why he left Cleveland (and everyone on ESPN dissed those guys ruthlessly)) wait until he had to make up for Melo not playing much defense

Last night Duncan scored what....8 points? And the Spurs still won by 21.

I think he would be fine if he could be in a Ginobli type of role. Or being the 3rd guy. Unfortunately the Heat have allowed Bosh to leave his inside game he had in Toronto to become this stretch 4 and they have no interior defense.

They need to gut the roster and bring back only

Lebron
Bosh ( Bosh has already said he will opt out and take less to stay in Miami as he loves living there)
Wade ( ask him to opt out for a discount to get more help)
Ray Allen ( He is cheap and as long as he don't have to play too many minutes like he is now, he can be effective. He keeps himself in good shape)
Birdman (Another one who is cheap, he is fine off the bench)

On the fence on bringing back:
Haslem (I like the dude and he plays hard. Maybe at a serious veteran's minimum he can come back)
Norris Cole ( His growth is stunted sharing time with Chalmers. I think he has some upside)
Rashard Lewis ( showed up for the playoffs, playing for cheap right now.

Absolutely let go:

Battier (He announced he is retiring for TV anyway0
Chalmers ( Dude is not good enough to be the second or third scoring option and he makes bad decisions)
Oden (Unless he improves with his knees this off season, he is just holding a roster spot)
Beasley ( Head case....they should move on)
James Jones ( nothing special about him)
Toney Douglass ( See James Jones)
