Mechelle McNair asks for 40 percent of estate

The Associated Press • September 18, 2009

NASHVILLE, TENN. — The wife of former Titans quarterback Steve McNair has filed legal papers seeking personal property, a year’s allowance and 40 percent of her deceased husband’s estate, valued at $19.6 million.

McNair died without a will. In documents filed Friday, Mechelle McNair asks the court to grant her certain personal household items and vehicles that are exempt from creditors under state law.

She also requests the court provide her with the one-year allowance she is allowed by law, upon court approval.

Because the couple was married for 12 years, Mechelle McNair is also entitled to and requests 40 percent of the remaining estate. The other 60 percent would go to Steve McNair’s four minor children. Mechelle McNair is the mother of two of the children.

Sad, but it appears Steve McNair's mother is going to get nothing.

Depends if Steve has not already given his Mother some big money. I know I would have done that. For all we know he may have put her house in her name and give her own money to play with. So she may be cool. I am hoping he gave her a few million of her own to bank.

If not then it will be interesting to see what happens. Well she will always have her grandchildren to look out for her. I think Ms Lucille will be fine.

Steve's mother is well taken care of.
I take it you have never seen that working ranch he built her on all that property they had when he first got in the NFL.
His brother runs it and that house is a mutha.
She been living like a NFL QB's mom should for all them years.

BTW:
That ranch has been expanded to 643 acre's now.

In a letter Steve McNair gave his mother on Christmas day in 1994, he told her that she was “fired” from the factory where she worked. In the letter, he said, “Yes mother, you can go ahead and retire. Thanks mama for all the years you put up with me.”

Steve McNair bought a 100-acre ranch where he built his mother a six-bedroom house.

That's good to hear!

Better check the records to see whose name that ranch is in.

JR, folk can be funny with money. The youngest kid's share will controlled by their mothers most likely. Courts will keep an eye on where that money goes. Then, those mothers have family that has their hands out. Lucille ain't the only interested party here.

Mechelle is asking for what she's entitled to by law. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah I know how folks can be about money. I am just hoping ole Steve broke his mother off some millions of her own. I mean if that had of been me. I would have done that. If there was ever a time to put something in your mama's name that would have been it. You never leave anything to chance. Especially when you got that kind of loot. I got a feeling his name is on that ranch but hopefully he put his brothers and mother on the deed as well. If he did.....then all Mechelle will be able to get is a portion of it. No way she can take control of it if their names are on it with Steve. But if it is all in Steve's name. Look out.:scared:

Mechelle is set so she shouldn't have any worries. She will get Steve's NFL pension and I am sure she had some insurance on him. The kids definitely will get theirs. So all in all. You would think there is enough for everyone to be secure for life.

What I meant about those sons.....the older boys will soon be out from under their mothers' control. Meaning they can give Grandma some money if need be. Sounds like that oldest boy is close with Ms Lucille. I hope all this turns out okay for all of them. Just wish ole Mac had put his isht in writing. You never know when your time comes or even a messy divorce could have caused trouble for him. Them rich white folks know how to put isht in other folks name to hide some assets. LOL. See and hear about it all the time.

Oh well. At least Mac had some money to fight over. After reading the article of how 78% of NFL players go broke after leaving the game in 2 years of less is just sad.

For all that she and her children have been through and will have to go through she deserves a whole lot more than what she is asking for. This woman has to be a Saint.

Yeah I did...looks like Steve has a property worth over $700000 so that's probably mama Mcnairs house. Here is the property link: http://www.mstc.state.ms.us/LandrollTPN/?countyName=Covington&year=08

Just type in McNair. He and Mama McNair have 2 properties but the big one is in his name.

Get your stuff straight folks, ok?

But would it not be best if it was in his name? If it was in her name, she would be responsible for it but it being in his name, it now legally belongs to Michelle and a 700K house would be nothing for her to pay off. But I bet that kind of house requires lot of upkeep. I bet the light bill is a mutha!

Also, Steve had money. People with money have life insurance. Not sure if life insurances pay if you get murdered but you know black folks will put mama on as a beneficiary in a heartbeat.

So I guess all the expert's have mcnair's wife throwing Momma McNair off the ranch now.
Ya'll need to stop.

That home was built on farming property owned by Momma McNair.
Family land that the McNair's grew up on.
It's just been expanded by buying surrounding property.

What they are saying is that she may own the land but does she own the house? If the house is not paid for, can she make the payments? Can she pay taxes on all of that land? (In America there is no such thing as owning land, 'cause if you don't pay the property tax, it ain't yours anymore. You are really just renting it from the county. :lecture:) Either Steve will have had to have looked out for her and set her up or Michelle is gonna have to take over. I would hope that Michelle doesn't throw her to the wolves.

When LeBron was on Oprah, she asked what he did when he started making money and he said he bought her a home, car, etc... Well, Oprah politely said, "Oh, I retired my mother". BIG difference. Oprah was telling him to think. If he bought those things but he died tomorrow, what would happen to his mother? Even if he paid those things off, could she afford the upkeep? I hope he went out the next day and retired his mother.

I'll bet Steve had that home insured out the wazoo in case something happened to him or the house, (FIRE, TORNADO, WHATEVER) if it was not paid off.
I'm sure it was since it was built in 1994.
The value of it NOW, IN 2009, is $700,000.
It did not cost that much to build back then

Steve probably paid cash for that home because it was a present to his mother.
I hope nobody is crazy enough to believe that Steve would sign a 1st round multi million dollar contract, tell his mom to retire, build his mom a home, and then hand her a big arse mortage payment book.

C' MON people. :lmao:

Unless one of the owners turn 65
legally blind
or 100% disabled

no property taxes are charged in these situations
