James Mtume passes away at 75

Brother was an intriguing musician to me, even in his interviews during the later years of his life.

It already speaks volumes when you've had the opportunity to play with Miles Davis. Then of course he put out those classic R&B hits in the 80s with the group named after him. However what I was most intrigued by (and it still is little known fact), the hip hop classic, "Talking All that Jazz," by Stetsasonic was directed towards him due to an interview where the rap group felt that he had disrespected Hip Hop....Yet, his most recognizable work was the base sample of one of the most popular rap songs ever (Juicy).

Oh, I forgot...he was also musical director for the New York Undercover series in the 90s. Meaning, he was responsible for bringing in all of those classic and legendary groups to perform at the end of each episode.

Anyhow....his music will continue to play on with my playlists... RIP
