I'm taking a cue from Suge

J4j..I called you out because you've mentioned this place several times..other H-town folks, yall probabaly been to these places also

Boudreaux's - From what I've read before, you seem to like this place. Are you sure your from South Louisiana or your a transplant because that food reminds me of something they cook in South Rhode Island. My mom brought home something they they called etouffee (I know what it is :rolleyes:) recently, it didn't taste like that to me or her. I hope you don't spend your hard earned money there, cause it ain't worth it. Stay at home and cook Mike spaghetti instead.

Pappadeaux's - Why do black folks run there like it's the best thing in Texas? Hardly....I know folks who have said they'll stop cooking because of this place. If you like gumbo full of oil, overpriced appetizers, skimpy servings(no salad, just fries and bread harder than some folks head) you'll like this place.

other places that don't make my list but have taken our beloved black women away from the kitchen

Bruh, you gotta be out yo mind. Pappadeaux's (at least the ones here in ATL) got some good arse food. It is kind of pricey and its always crowded, but the food is good as L. Give me that seafood platter and :eek: :eek:
 
Boudreaux and Papadeaux are good here in htown, at least their shrimp platter and crab fingers are. I dont eat everybodies Gumbo and ettouffee so I dont know what theirs taste like. I cook my own gumbo and it suits me just fine. Maybe it was your choice of dishes that didn't taste good.:cool: :)
 
Mighty Hornet............I paid for that seafood platter before and it was alright at best...$20 bucks is kind of steep though

Boudreaux's.....no.....

what I do since then..........go to the local seafood market, get a pound and a half of catfish, 1/2 pound of shrimp, iron pot, tony chacherie's seasoning, corn meal, oil and a bottle of tea...fry it up and bam...

great food for less than $10...:D

I can almost agree with you on Boudreax's, but Pappadeaux's. Not saying that both of these places are the best on earth, let alone in Houston, but you're sounding like you got your chef's certification. Those places aren't half as bad as your making them out to be.

Maybe you've hit the places during closing time or something. :shrugs:
 
OB..

I base it on seasonings...they just don't put enough in the food to satisfy me, and the food is too heavy at times

putting salf and pepper after the food is cooked is politically incorrect, the flavor is not going in...marination
 
Speaking as one who KNOWS Louisiana food...


Pappadeaux's is WHACK!!!!!!!! Why do you think there are no Pappadeaux's in Louisiana? Because it would get put out of business!!!

Boudreaux's is TEN times better. The food is seasoned better, the prices are good, and the atmosphere is more authentic.

Let this serve as a warning to all:

Never buy etouffe from a restaurant outside Louisiana. Better yet don't buy it from ANY restaurant.

And speaking as one who KNOWS what taste good to him, Pappadeaux's is DAMN good. It really doesn't matter if Louisiana folkx don't consider it as "authentic". It's good to this brotha!!!(and based on the outrageous crowds they always have, it's damn good to a whole lotta other folks too)

OK The SWAC, The Band Fan, whoever you are.... what are some "nice" restaurants in Houston that you enjoy and would recommend? Inquiring minds want to know. :confused:

I'm mainly talking about the etouffe. Anyone can fry or grill fish, shrimp and crabs.

If you want good etouffe, SUperJag96 is your man!!!
 
My mom is from Opelousas, LA....she knows a thing or two about good food...

I thought I would never say this......I agree with a Jag..at least half

MH.....taste some real food from Louisiana and you'll find out Pappadeaux's is average to...large crowds don't mean anything, folks might settle for anything these days. I seen McDonald's crowded before so I assume folks think that's great also :rolleyes:

Blaque Butterfly...............besides Ryan's kitchen, if I recommend somewhere it better be good.

Frenchy's...best Fried chicken out there

Cleburne's Cafeteria....bet half of yall don't even know where this is

Pappas - yeah, but it is not Pappadeaux's...food is actually better.

Tony Roma's - I like the ribs, melt right off the bone....

Ralph and Kakoos - been to the one in the french quarter

Ethel's - even though I attended SU for some time, I never could make it, but my mom raved about it so it must be good

Your mom is right about Ethel's. I'm surprised you never went there. :confused:

Ralph in Kacoo's is one of the best Louisiana restaurants, in my opinion. There are 2 in Baton Rouge, also--on Airline close to campus and on Bluebonnet.

Pappas is better than Pappadeaux's, I don't know why.

Tony Roma's has some of the best ribs I've had.

Dang, we're starting to agree on too many things. If we can only talk about things other than SU, we'll be alright. :cool:

Oh why did you have to say Emeril? I wanna go to New Orleans and dine at all three. The food is soooooooo great. My personal favorites in Houston are Captain Benny's & Ragin Cajun (for many years), Pappadeaux's, food good, but made the mistake of ordering french fries (embarrassingly beyond super portion), Landry's, then there's Carmellos, Carrabbas, Lynn's, Goode Company and the preacher that sells BBQ in the parking lot at South Post Oak & Ridge Creek almost every Saturday. Ralph and Kacoo's in NO is really good. I heard there is one in Houston, if so, does anyone know where is it and is it as good as New Orleans?
 
I agree with THE SWAC about Boudreaux and Pappadeaux. The food is way over priced and it is nothing to write home about. And why people flock there is beyond me.
 
Ryan, you're correct about Pappadeaux's ...but it'll do if you don't feel like cooking at home. I NEVER EAT THEIR GUMBO...MOTOR OIL IN A BOWL....


Boudreaux's is cool. I like their food. I can't complain about AIRN dish...


Copeland's : METAL in my crabmeat! :redhot:


No restaurant compares to home cooking. If you ever been to Louisiana, ...NOT EVEN all of it's restaurant's compare to home...
 
I hated that they closed Tony Roma's in Houston..but the ribs at TGI Friday's come the closest

Captain Benny's fry their seafood too hard for me, it's too dry.

I will give Boudreaux's another try, but it'll be this so called seafood platter....

Jag......don't know why I never made it to Ethel's.....when I try to go when I'm in town it's too late.

J4J..........your right, some places in Louisiana need to close shop even though I always see a crowd at the Crab Shack or whatever the name of the blue building is off of i-10 in Lake Charles across from the Casinos.
 
Ryan, you know... I heard Ethel's was closed or "should be closed" ... I haven't seen it in a while....

I'm with you. I ain't from Louisiana, so I ain't one to go to my kitchen to fix anything considered cajun, creole or whatever. I know what I like and Pappadeaux's is aight with me.

You know something.... I am beginning to think that I am not communicating my thoughts properly when I post stuff, so let me repeat myself (sometimes repetition is the key to understanding)....

The Band Fan, in one of your earlier post YOU said that a lot of Houston woman considered Pappadeaux's to be a NICE restaurant, as if they didn't really know what NICE was. So... I am going to ask you again.... what are some restaurants in Houston that you consider NICE??? Now hear me on this... I did not say had GOOD food, I said NICE... i.e. great food, great presentation, great ambience, a place you would take a NICE date or celebrate a special occasion.

Did I communicate that a little better this time....

NO... the Pappa's family owns the chain of Pappa's restaurants...

Pappadeaux's (Louisiana Cajun Kitchen ... they can't boil crawfish worth crap... Who ever heard of sprinkling seasoning on the crawfish shell? :rolleyes:)

Pappa's Brothers ---Steak house

Pappa's seafood --- seafood but supposedly NOT cajun

Pappasito's -- Mexican

Dot's (breakfast diner)

ummm there seems to be one missing...
