HBCU sports had some great topics back in the day. This thread just so happened to pop up in a search I was doing. Its a great read for those interested. The comments were locked so I am making a new thread about it.
One of the biggest debates in the history of HBCU football is HOW JSU dominated the SWAC from 1980-1990, but we only have ONE national championship. I would love to compare those JSU teams and the Central State teams back in the late 80s. Also, I even recall back in 1996 when JSU finished the season at #1, FAMU was #2, and Howard was #3. JSU and FAMU were both penalized for participating in the playoffs, and Sheridan attempted to name Howard as the HBCU champions. Thank goodness there were other polls around that stopped that foolishness. And the funny thing is that we played Howard the next year and beat them. The Sheridan Poll always seemed to have an East Coast bias. Although Central State is not on the East Coast, I would love to see how, in all those years, JSU was never #1.
