I haven't seen the movie yet, but what most people don't understand, engineers used to train their secretaries to work a slide rule in order to do all their calculations. Now we have calculators and computers to do that. Slide rules and mechanical drafting are basically obsolete. Now there are computer programs like AutoCAD that does all the drafting. As a freshman engineering student at Southern, mechanical drafting was a mandatory course. Engineer students were easily recognized for the drafting materials they carried around, especially the T-square. I doubt if a lot engineer students today know what a slide rule or a T-square are.

I enjoyed my drafting class at A&M. Mr. Black was the teacher. If I didn't stay in EET, I could've made in drafting.

John Glenn was a nice guy. Got a chance to meet and talk with him when he flew the Shuttle mission in the late 90s. Dude was funny as well.
