"Head of the Household"

What does "head of the household" mean?
What influence, if any does educational level and income contributed to the household have in determining what "head of the household" means?
 



Personally I could live with a woman making more money than me. Making money and paying bills doesn?t make you the head of the house. Being mentally and physically there for your family makes you the head of the house. Listening, spending time and sharing quality time with your family can make a heck of a difference than money ever could. I understand money helps you do nice things for your family, but it doesn?t take the place of being spiritually alive. If your not careful it will make you spiritually dead. Some people like playing house. Why be in the house and just paying bills when you can take full advantage of enjoying your family.

No decison should be made without asking me first. EVER!! I think if am an is not doing what he needs to be for that household then he loses his power. If the gras ain't get cut. The outside of the house looks like a jungle then he is not doing somethin. I can see if the man is handicapped or an elderly man. I also think folks should run their house the way they see fit. I think folks get caught up too much in how others run their household. We all may not run our house the same as others. For instance i tell my wife to put all the bills on the counter and i give her the bill money so she can go pay them . We recently had a problem with teh rent gettin paid. Our landlord said she never received payment for one month. The landlord wanted us to mail the rent to her and she stays in in the same area as us. It took one time for her not to get my hard earned money and i went to my landord job and told her to her face. There would be no more mailing going on ever. I told her i would only put the money in her hand. She looked at me like i was crazy but i meant every word i said. I told her i did not know what happen but i will not be mailing any more money to her. She might have not liked it but it had to done. I feel the head of the household has to do things like that. My wife is highly educated and is a talker wheras i am not a talker but when the times comes i can talkl with the best of them.
 
Head of House to me is a man who is the protector, primary decision-maker of household affairs and the spiritual leader.

I agree.

Please be a responsible man that understands your role.

My father may not be the most spiritual man in the world but we never lacked for anything (and if the truth be told I still don't). He understood that he was the protector, provider, primary disciplinarian, etc. in the house. This was never an issue.

Spiritually or Physically?
 
I echo some of the feelings on this topic that it does not have to do with education level nor income. The man should be the head, but the head cannot operate without the feet and hands. He must be able to give criticism as well as take it. Take his wife's opinion also but be able to make the final decisions.

:nod2: That one line joke is not a joke "I am the boss in my house and I have my wife's permission to say that"
The man should be the head of the household. All final decisions should be made by him. If he and the wife can not agree then he should have the final word.
Now his decisions should more often than not make the wife happy. He should be more concerned with his decision making his wife happy than him. yet the wife should respect that decision even if she does not agree.
 
I only associate Head of Household with the Internal Revenue. All they want to know is who will be responsible for paying the taxes.

Head of Household is just a common term for estabishing status. Therefore, in one's position you can establish this status Single or married as long as you determine the status. You can select income, education or other things that gives one status. But once you choose your status you must live up to it and be able to support it. When I bought my first Cadillac, I drove it to the same places that I had been eating (McDonald, Burger King, Hardy's, soul food and so on), but I never realized this automobile carried a certain status and I was not living up the preceived status, because all I wanted to do was own one Cadillac in my lifetime. I also knew that I had to make some money to buy it. But to me it was just a good riding car and nothing more. Then one day I decided to investigate the preceived status of driving a Cadillac. Once I learned, I bought two more. :)

No married couple should try to acquire Head of Household by claiming a status that undermines the spouse.

The head of the household is the spokesperson for that house/home. He/she is responsible for the final decisions affecting that home.
The bible specifies who the head of the household should be. It also stipulates how decisions should be made for that house (by the head)
Today all decisions should be made by the man and wife and if they can not agree the husband should decide what is best for the home.

I wanted to be sure this is the scripture that you were basing your comment on, however, it is my belief that if man can do this as written it makes him perfect and Christ like.

Where is a Rev. when we need him/her?

I've said it before and I will say it again: I am the head of the household regardless of what I may or may not make. Any woman that doesn't like it can get the fucc out.

So what does Head of Household mean to you?
 
We have a problem in our community because too many people don't know their roles. IMHO, mayhem started in the AA community when it became necessary for two incomes to exist in the household. The temptation of equating materialism to "head of household" became prevalent. Now you have a growing bunch of "confused heads." Until the problem is resolved, the AA community will continue to have chaos.

What about the single-parent households? For years and it still continues to this day, the mother had to be the head-of-the-house, because there wasn't a father figure in the house for whatever reason. And maybe she had to work for two incomes to make ends meet.

If you do a little research, your findings will be that the nuclear family headed by males has disentegrated when it became necessary for two incomes in the household. It also was the inception of "latch key kids." Further, it was the very foundation for moral decay that not only persist but thrives today.
