ESPN - Red Lobster Band of The Year

How's the attendance on this event? Will it survive?

As long as most SWAC schools (especially JSU and SU) say it's not legit, most people in HBCU circles won't see it as such. The winning D1 only traveled to ASU within their own division but they're the "best"

Can't see it surviving long term until every school can battle every school on the field (sponsors)

Quit yer bitchin'. The 100 performed at 8 of our 12 games this year. We got to go head up against Norfork, SCSU, ASU, TxSU, BCU and ultimately A&T. The band had a hell of a year. The competition show was near perfect.

The attendance this year was better than last year. Both bands put on top tier shows. I'm looking forward to seeing how they grow the event. I can imagine at some point they will have a best stand band category to appease a certain segment of schools.

I think it will need to have a stand competition at least & involve the 2 schools actually competing in the game. Automatic entry into the band competition even if they don't won't to do their field show . Turnout would improve if the 2 schools competing band shows up.

Agreed. Last year would have included FAMU as the exhibition band. This year would have been JSU. There are some potential cons as you don't want the exhibition bands potentially showing up those competing. Or maybe even have the Celebration Bowl bands battle in the stands between performances. I think the ultimate goal is to make this into an end of the year celebration of the culture. I think you could even do something like give out a content creator of the year award for the person(s) making the most significant impact on the culture for the year. There are a lot of ancillary things they could do to make this event better

Maybe involve the Greeks as well like the Bayou Classic which I think had 32k for last seasons Battle of the Bands. But you have to involve the 2 schools bands competing in the game .

Let’s be real, name a band that can have that formations, songs, precision and balanced sound. No loud bass drums, percussion blends in, as my high school band director and Dr. Foster used to say, drums should be felt not heard.
