Black Men and Facial Hair

Why do most Black men wear a mustache? I know some people think it de-masculines their look. I don't agree, but it does make them look "different" initially for a few days. The reason I asked is because when I shaved mine, people that knew me sorta stared and asked "why did you shave your mustache?" in a tone that suggested they thought it was a cfuked up look.

Men: would you/have you ever gone without having facial hair of any kind and was your decision not to was because of the "makes me look gay" mentality?

Ladies: would you want your man to completely shave his facial hair and when you initially see a man with no facial hair do you subconsciously think "must be gay?"

I completely shaved my mustache two weekends ago... my wife loved it immediately, my daughter said "oh my God, that man done cleaned his lip" :lmao::lmao:

I like a clean, shaven mustache, goatee, beard (in the winter time).

I can get used to a "naked" face (as I call them) but it will take some time.

Funny,
my co-worker shaved his mustache off and when i saw him the first thing I said was, "why did you shave your face? You look naked!" He looked....not right. It wasn't nearly as cute as when he had the mustache.
LMAO

My husband wears a clean face, and I love it and prefer it that way.

And it's not facial hair or the lack thereof on a man that makes me initially wonder if he's gay.

I love to see clean faces, mustaches, beards and goatees on men, as long as it's fitting to their face and well-groomed!

I shaved my goatee too thin one day. Since it was so thin, I decided to completely shave it. The next day, I walked into class and this girl was like, "Dude, you look "different"........" Judging by her tone and the lookshe gave me, she coulda said, "Dude, that was the WRONG thing to do.." lol

I've heard about the de-masculine effect, but I guess it depends. I keep my goatee trimmed and neat... and I learned to leave the true barber skills to my barber.

A shaved face looks gay... It makes the person look sick IMO. I understand some jobs dont allow facial hair... but a naked face is just not wassup.

I change mine up from time to time... sometimes Ill have a full goatee, sometimes I will cut the sides of the goatee off and just have a mustache and beard. Right now Im going with the Pastor Troy/old David Banner beard. lol

 MikeB got the "booty" face. :lmao:

Some men can pull off a clean face and some need to have that facial hair. If you look good, you look good. I don't have a preference.

I've worn a mustache since the 8th grade. When they (Big Bro's) shaved my head and facial hair a few of them didn't know who I was. I have not shaved my mustache but once since then and that's over 20 years ago. My head and lip were green... Its not a pretty site....

I have full BEARD...like Issac Hayes, Rick Ross, Suge Knight (without the yellow coat) 80's type beard.

I've always tried to be different than the "corporate black folks" hear at the firm.

I've had a full beard since sophomore year of high school. All the men in my family are "hairy".

Do you have to pay your barber extra to shave your ears????

So what? You're Muslim now?

No man... you tripping. I just put up some pics of famous Black men who are devoid of facial hair. I'm still and always will be a Baptist Deacon. Not that I'm hung up on denominations because the main thing for me is to be Christian... (now get your azz somewhere before I put down this good book).

As I think more about it... most of the elderly men (those who were in their 60's and better when I was a teen) were without facial hair. The didn't necessarily shave every day because they were up early working in the fields, but on Sunday those dudes were always clean shaven, suit and tie with a dress hat.
