Sept. 5, 2006
Alabama A&M men's soccer student-athlete Mlondi Mdluli was among four people killed in a car accident Monday morning in his home nation of Swaziland, according to newspaper reports from the city of Manzini. The sophomore goalkeeper was the starting keeper for the Bulldogs in their first two matches of the season. He had returned home last week, according to members of the team, to help an ailing mother. Details of the accident are still vague.
Mdluli helped lead the Bulldogs to one of their biggest victories in recent history, a 2-1 season-opening victory at Virginia Commonwealth. For the first two games of the season, he made 11 saves and had a 2.50 goals against average.
AAMU head men's soccer coach Salah Yousif said he had little information on the situation, but felt remorse for his former player. "May God rest his soul," Yousif said.
No official arrangements have been announced yet.
