Former Red Wolves Lauryn Pendleton and Mailyn Wilkerson heading to Alabama A&M.Lady Bulldogs coached by former UAPB HC Dawn Thornton
Junior guard Lauryn Pendleton announced Thursday night that she was leaving the program. The Little Rock native averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game in the 2023-24 season. Pendleton was the 2022 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, she played in 87 games over 3 seasons.
Junior guard Mailyn Wilkerson announced Friday morning her intentions to enter the transfer portal. The Houston native averaged 5 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist per game in the 2023-24 season. Wilkerson had a career high 22 points in a December 2023 win over Little Rock. She played in 88 games over 3 seasons.

At the point ALL of us are in right now… you recruit for the next season. Looking at the SWAC women’s transfer portal… EVERY school has 5 or more players in the portal.

Most coaches will have to basically put a new team on the field / court each year. The skill that is needed in coaches is the ability to recruit into your system each year. The era of dynasties is gone. The Division I AA schools are now feeder schools to the Power 5 and others larger schools. Even the power 5 will have a hard time hold on to top talent ($$$).
