The State Fair Classic Is As Ghetto As It Gets

Well I watched Mr. Al Wash's response and I must say that he & his son acquitted themselves very well. He made some valid points & whatever one says about how the event unfolded Mr. Wash himself isn't "ghetto" nor his sons.

The argument they were making centered around elitism & generational divisions were somewhat valid. Not quoting anyone here:

1) If we simply catered to the " talented tenth", so to speak, that attended HBCU's that the Classics like the Bayou , Magic City, Florida , ,etc would all die. We need sidewalk fans & younger fans to attend when older fans like myself are staying away.

2) Had Smokey Robinson , Al Green or Stevie Wonder did a brief karaoke type appearance at the end zone party would the older fans be as upset?

3) There was never a penalty called or refs stopping the game because the noise was disruptive as they have to do with the marching bands sometimes. Maybe this is the future of sports & we are too old/ nostalgic to see it?

4) Its a great discussion to have and they are open to adjust with less inflammatory language

If you were at the game, you would have seen the disruptive up close and personal in the west endzone. It was disruptive.

He said nothing new, he has made those same points for years. Instead of trying to deflect and defend his foolishness on the backs of younger people, he should have been accepting accountability and making an announcement there will be adjustments. He is the problem. The young people are not the ones scheduling concert performances during the game and allowing those antics associated with them, he is.

I wasn't there and I'm not aware of any penalties or game stoppages by refs.

If you had told me in the 1980's or early 90's that most all Universities( including PWI's) would be blasting obnoxiously loud Gansta Rap or Trap music over the speakers at games many would have dismissed it as " ghetto/hood ,etc...But it's a common thing now. Maybe these type of fan experiences with DJs or little party type "events" during games may be the future?

How can he defend that video that Kennfolks showed? Totally distasteful!

Both schools need to have serious talks with Al Wash going forward.

Some think it's distasteful when Gram's band members, cheerleaders and dancing dolls scream "I thought you knew Beyotch!" at our sacred family events. Those aren't the locals ,but our precious " talented tenth ".

Many things should be open to discussion without completely turning our backs on genuine & potential fans or game day innovations. In the past most would have condemed DJ's & Trap music during games " ghetto" or " hood", but today it's common at most all Universities.

Refs or head ref didn't know what to do. Every single time the mics went silent and the music started blasting w/ loud words from microphones, he simply looked over there and didn't know what to do. Who is he going to penalize? That's not the pressbox so who would he ask to silence the music and mics in the endzone?

While I'm here.... You GSU'ers need to tell your renegade band director to stop the silly shit as well. On the very first offensive possession by Gram on O, guess who played 3 mf'ing songs back-to-back-to-back NO stopping while Gram was on offense and UNDER center? I am PV and I was pissed because that's not fair to the players and coaching staff. We knew it would be a tightly contested game and something as simple as that may have cost GSU the game and prevented a first drive scoring opportunity to set the tone for Gram and stifle the will of PV. Instead, the WF made the entire first half all about them, nonstop, and not the football team attempting to dominate.

Senseless, disruptive behaviors.

The schools have the leverage. Al seems to be one of those arrogant guys that force you to say something before he does what needs to be done.

Al does a great job to keep the schools and coaches from even trying to make that change - many ADs new to the classic have tried over the years but none have succeeded - trust me he knows what to do -

I do have to ask though; is it ghetto when our dancers spread their feet apart and thrust their hips forward about 10 times?
Is it ghetto when mascots literally fight at games? Is it ghetto for bands and/or student sections to scream obscenities? Is it ghetto to portray peeing on the field? Is it ghetto to have one window open in a concession stand at homecoming?
Like "DCG" just asking.

From what I watched(close to 30 minutes) what needed to be addressed wasn't adequately addressed: This is a football game and during a football game there doesn't need to be a damn live concert being performed in the end zone. it doesn't matter the live concert's performers genre of music. No music concert should be performed in the end zone during a football game; period.

They mentioned doing things that will entice the younger crowd to attend the game. well they can have a block party and all that other shit. they can have pregame concerts inside the stadium if they want but during the football game inside of the stadium there should be no live music performance(s) in the end zone conflicting with the actual game that's being played on the field. And if no one pointed that out to them then that whole show was a wasted chance to set things straight.
