2025-2026 Mean Green Marching Machine Thread

I said when he was hired and a bit later that he needed to do things that make Valley and the MS Delta unique. Study OLD VALLEY- all versions, elevate the musicianship and respect that campus and all the Blackness it represents for what is actually a huge historical area of the South. Am I reaching to believe he DIDN'T do any of that? And is it true he was made Provost or VP at the University? Like, what huge research would make him qualify for that? Recruiting for a band and retaining is great, but what are those students majoring in? That's a terrible decision kf he isn't actively doing those things and instead of the usual increase of rigor, increase the academic standard and outreach and effective footprint of that University. The MS Delta needs a robust MVSU.
Valley has musical potential. It's a hotbed place of blues since blues began amongst Black folk after Reconstruction. It's not far from the birthplace of Ike Turner. That should be a part of every musical program there and challenging the musicians will elevate that program. A uniform change would help too, with some good alumni weigh in and $$$ would go a long way.
Yeah he improved recruitment but didn't the two directors right before him do that from before them? I hope Valley rises and also never again courts MAGA attention. MAGA attention doesn't benefit Black people and it doesn't encourage research, academic success and matriculation/graduation. Anyone fitting the venn diagram of MAGA is harmful to progression. I hope he didn't permanently damage Valley. A day is coming when Valley gets to putting BTA as an HBCU, too. Don't give up on your alma mater. I wish Valley all the best.

1) It was a not so open secret that Bonds was the defacto admissions director as well as VP. They just made the VP official back in September. Briggs had to cut ties with Bonds after this incident because he had to buy himself some more time after hiring and elevating Bonds despite his criminal history. He had to withdraw his name from the Texas College job after the Bonds stuff blew up.

2) I am on record in saying that I supported them going to DC because of the honor of marching in the parade not the person in office. That being said, the only 2 people that wanted them to march in DC was the MAGA president and his MAGA VP/band director with the criminal past. One got fired and the other eventually will be for hiring him

He's an alum right? If he sees this- Mr. Webb please challenge your musicians and develop musicality w/that Blues background. It may take work- but Valley DESERVES it. So many kids can benefit from it. I wish you the best.

I'm not a band person but going by the news of him being hired, people overwhelmingly support it not only because he's a Valley alum but he wrote and arranged many of the songs Valley got traction on social media including the one below (which he is directing in the clip)
