MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University Athletics proudly announces the hiring of Chris Wright as the new Head Coach of the Hornets Men's Basketball program. One of the most accomplished and respected coaches in the country, Wright brings a 332–121 career record, a history of transformational success, and a championship-driven approach to Bama State.

"Chris Wright represents exactly what we were looking for a proven winner, a builder of programs, and a leader who knows how to establish and sustain a championship culture," said Alabama State Vice President and Athletic Director. "His results speak for themselves, and his vision aligns perfectly with where we are going as a program."

"We are proud to continue our strong winning tradition as we welcome Coach Chris Wright to lead our men's basketball program. Alabama State President Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr. made the statement. "I have full confidence in the leadership and vision of our Vice President and Athletic Director, Jason Cable, and trust in the direction he is guiding Hornet athletics. We are excited about the future of Hornet basketball. Our goal is clear: to compete at the highest level in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and beyond while developing champion, well-rounded student-athletes prepared for success in life. I look forward to the energy, passion, and leadership that Coach Chris Wright will bring to our program."

Wright's most recent success at Langston University has been truly historic. Taking over a program that finished 1–27, Wright engineered one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college basketball, leading Langston to a 31–3 record in his first season (2022–23). Over his four-year tenure, he compiled an extraordinary 121–21 record, including dominant seasons of 31–3, 35–2, and 29–8, firmly establishing Langston as a national powerhouse.

Good hire Hornets way to think out the box…🐝🐝🐝
cause he white lol - full circle moment - his former AD was hired after dominating at langston to coach WBB at Grambling State in 2008 - got things corrected and had a killer recruiting class coming in before ish hit the fan and most of the class followed the assistant coach to TSU when they dominated under Cooper in 2012 - that assistant is the top guy at Baylor now.

Will be interesting to see if Wright jumped too quick or could've waited it out and got TSU but he was smart in this business- lol

no offense to valley, now all the attention turns to TSU and seeing where they go as rarely does that gig open - will they?

1. go get another Mike Davis, Johnny Jones type
2. bump the loyal assistant up
3. find a deserving alum in the business
4. steal someone else's coach ala Grambling-FAMU from 2025
5. pull a Cris Dishman type move on the hardwood (former NBA local type)
6. get handed someone from a P5 staff who's an assistant

Byron Smith is your new coach
lol - but history says when a PV coach leaves for TSU they do win more and the programs they left never recover -

Cooper left, WBB never really dominated - won in the tourney with a former assistant but that has been it
Rob left, baseball only won once since and has struggled
the assistant track coach left PV and the men's track team has dominated

Naw bruh lol. His record precedes him. Seems to be a solid hire and he has a track record of improving where he goes. We are kinda' jealous over here. 👀 We know you know who cougar wants to be at an fbs school. Let him denigrate something about our school.... just one more time and watch what happens.

Because all we keep hearing is black men need shots and all that jazz. Not just with HBCUS but in general. Because they can't get shots and white retreads keep getting shots.

It gets to a point of when do we get to hire the possible best person-who might not be black? Just like we call out white organizations and tell them maybe the best person for their jobs is a black person. Why can't that be the same here?

Looking at that man's resume-He has been at two HBCUS and WON. He has coach in the south. I am going to ask who within the budgets of the HBCUs could folks have gotten???

I would say Bama just tossed out a challenge to TSU-who can you get?

Despite what folks think of Jones or Davis-10 out 14 times TSU was in postseason. 2 losing seasons. Bar been raised.

Waiting on your new AD to make him his offer to get to sTu.

While here, stop contacting Goff. :-/ The grapevine down 290 from 3rd ward is very small and honest. 👀
You will be waiting a long time. Goff got a gift from TSU in the football coach. He had a very easy process. Just look at the top 4 from the TSU process & pick the best candidate. i’m

sTu trying to repeat the McClelland/Frazier days huh? lol

The world is small and folk like to talk behind the scenes exposing all the ill-nana. :-/

Bama St made a progressive move. 👏 I wish A&M had the balls to hire Jack Doss years ago after Pettaway. Our basketball program would have never been as bad as it has been.
