Commissioner says that "SWAC has ‘long way to go’ to get out of the one-bid league stage"

what we've been saying from the beginning - the top can't keep propping up the bottom - one day, you may have to cut out the bottom

I've seen teams with decent RPI win in SWAC play but drop just cause its a SWAC game

Pretty much.

The SWAC needs smarter scheduling plain and simple. Been saying it for a while.

Can't have 2-3 teams playing a murderer's row in the OOC while others have 3-4 Ecclesia's and Blue Mountain's in the regular season (and some actually lose to them smh)

Then we get in conference and beat each other up

A guaranteed recipe for a play in game

Can you atleast attempt to educate her since she's one of your alumni?

Theory:

Basketball is a non-revenue generator at many of our schools — and other one-bid league D-1s. Playing those OOC games on the road generates needed revenue for basketball programs. Programs generate enough revenue, then you won't see as many of those road OOC games.

Problem is ... who can you schedule that can help boost your RPI? Who can you schedule that you can bring into your gym instead of playing back-to-back-to-back on the road?

It's an individual school issue, and a conference issue as well. However, it's NOT JUST THE SWAC AND MEAC dealing with this.

Sneakily, this is also a reason your college football team (if your school has one) is playing money games as well.

More often than not, @yardtalkhbcu has backed Gram, the SWAC, and all HBCUs. Sometimes she asks questions or makes statements to bring our enemies out and then pounces on them.

I'll give her credit for being a big HBCU proponent and using her big platform to advocate for them.

The problem is tweets like above in which you slight the commissioner for ulterior motives (and then proceeds to prove people right by posting an OffScrpit or Roland video).

If you want the SWAC to be the best as far as media rights, that's all good but don't do it just to steer people to Roland and OffScript who are on UEN's payroll. And don't act like you know more than established media people like Mo, etc. with actual connects and experience compared to just a Twitter platform

It still wouldn’t matter…. Norfolk state women scheduled the right way… only lost 6 games and was still a 16th seed and had to face South Carolina in the first round.

Who did they play? And what were the RPI for those teams?
And what was the record of the REST of the conference?

You can't make a case when the rest of your conference STINKS. 3 teams with a winning record and 3 that didn't sniff 10 wins?

Should they have gotten the play in game and faced Southern? Who lost a team with 2 teams with winning records in the conference and 4 teams that couldn't win 10 games?

Southern should have faced South Carolina since the SWAC had 24 team with winning records and 3 who couldn't win 8 games.

They had 11 D1 non conference wins and lost to Penn State by 6. Dawn Staley even said they shouldn’t have played her team in the first round. They lost by 32… but hey thats the average margin most teams lose to South Carolina by IN conference.

You start looking at who is close to you.

You create your own events like why can't the SWAC and say Southland have an event?
All those schools are near most SWAC schools.
Same with the WAC with the Texas schools.

Would it be possible to do this-

SWAC & Southland or/and WAC prevent a college fair open to say Texas students that features ALL the schools or both conferences with 4-6 games between the conferences during a weekend? Play it at say Texas Southern and vary by year with every team hosting eventually?

Free recruiting in everything and you are doing the entire schools and not just sports. And how many players could the SWAC get from those areas like Utah and Idaho?

speaking for AAMU…. Our fans would rather see AAMU and Oakwood vs AAMU and any Southland or even OVC school. It’s a crosstown HBCU rival. Oakwood brings more fans than anyone else on the schedule. Sold out game with a great atmosphere. Do you turn those games down?

No, it is a revenue generator according to what you wrote.

Funny you should ask that.

Their best wins were again App State, Marshall, Wiliam & Mary, UNCW, etc. When they played Penn State, they lost by 6 and got skulldrug by 62 when they played Roll Tide. And people PLEASE stop scheduling schools like VUL during the season then complain when you get a 16 seed. Who you beat matters especially on the women's side with it being so top heavy

If they would have played JSU's schedule and won 5 of those games, they would have been a 13-14 seed.

Other D1s seek out regional OOC games without having to play the Little Sisters of Mount Exclamation or whatitsface.

It’s OK to have one or three Power Six (gotta count The American in all other sports besides football) games, but we should work on beating up on like schools in nonconference, especially in deals where we can schedule more home games

Basketball should be like most other sports in the SWAC with regional scheduling. Like I do soccer and you can almost guarantee you will see 3-4 of the LA schools on the schedule a year. That's what the MEAC does with their smart scheduling

I've pushed for a SWAC/MEAC Challenge in basketball but I also like the Southland idea of a regional tourney

There's a lot to be gained by playing schools that fall in our regional footprint in OOC.

Like the Southland, WAC, Ohio Valley, SoCo, ASun, MEAC, Sun Belt, American, C-USA, Big South and others ... we can fill schedules without having to regularly get our heads bashed in by the blue bloods
