SCSU vs BCC? SCSU is a better option for the SWAC and here’s why

Their enrollment didn't go under 1K ... where you get that from. SCSU is in decent standing, it will never go under b/c it's a public institution. Some of the private ones are in jeopardy of failing. Tennessee State is my vote for the next SWAC addition.

I don't see FAMU leaving for BCS in the next 10-15 years. Right now FAMU is not very competitive in most sports. But so glad to see FAMU join us, it's something I wanted for a very long time.

Yes it did... spring 2020... View: https://youtu.be/rnBJt29TbMU

Thank you for this. How they go from 2,500 in the fall to less than 1,000 in the spring? That's unheard of ... I'm sure white supremacists are behind tearing down SCSU right now. They only graduated around 300 in the fall. Shame!

And the president looks and sounds like a boot-licking c**n. He's probably complicit with the decline of SCSU because there's no reason why it shouldn't be thriving right now. SC is so racist .... ya'll just don't understand. It's very very hard for black institutions and communities to thrive in that good 'ole boy "slavery wasn't all bad" controlled state.

1. SCSU has their own on-campus 22,000 seat stadium. BCC plays in a 10,000 seat, city owned stadium. That would mean a lot of neutral site games.
2. SCSU opens up a new TV market. SWAC already has Florida with FAMU joining.
3. Orangeburg, SC is about as Far East as Daytona, FL. No real travel advantage so go with SC.
They broke. End of discussion.

Add neither! Watch the Albany State situation which would open up Georgia to the SWAC.

And stop licking up to Tennessee State! They had their chance. Forget them!
Albany State is not really close to Atlanta (more than 3 hours away) and Albany States’ sports really don’t get media coverage in Atlanta. So if the SWAC is trying to tap into the Atlanta market, then Albany State may not help with that.

I didn't say Atlanta ... I said Georgia. The SWAC would boost their coverage and their growth could boost the SWAC. Short of a boosted and D1 Morehouse, I really think they might be one of the better options.

Might as well kill the Tennessee State noise.

They would have to pay $750K to leave the OVC with one years' notice (and forfeit postseason basketball money)

Atlanta is the only market that matters in Georgia. If the SWAC ain't tapping into that market it's not worth while. Albany State largest alumni base is in Atlanta but most don't make the trip to Albany State for games.

But with FAMU coming to the SWAC, the SWAC is finally strongly tapping into the Atlanta market. FAMU alumni or "FAMUly" as they like to call themselves are DEEP IN ATLANTA. Even the Atlanta mayor is a FAMU graduate ... the largest alumni chapter outside of FL for FAMU is in Atlanta.

I don't get why everyone wants to bring in 2 institutions that are barely keeping the lights on. SCSU's situation looks dire to me. Their enrollment went under 1,000 this past Spring semester. Plus, they are 735 miles (12 hrs) away from the NEAREST Western Division team. Do you think traveling to SWAC opponents is financially feasible? The MEAC or D2 is their best option at the moment.

BCU also needs to fix their financial issues before spending a ton of money to jump conferences. I don't see BCU as a draw for the SWAC either. I just don't. It's good news for FAMU, but what happens in 5 years when FAMU announces they're leaving the SWAC for FBS? (because you know it's going to happen) Is BCU still attractive? I've nothing against them, but if we're going to expand to 12 teams, it should not strain the conference anymore than we are with travel expenses. Lest we suffer the same fate as the MEAC over the last decade and years to come.

Neither SCSU nor BCU are healthy institutions at this time, IMO. I fear putting them in the SWAC could do more harm than good to them, and the last thing we need is another HBCU to go under. My $0.02.

I agree!

outside of the AUC schools, FAMU is represented very well here..with the price of those AUC schools, I wouldnt be surprised if more FAMU grads live in Atlanta than those from Morehouse, Spelman and Clark.

I actually read somewhere Atlanta is home to the most HBCU alumni which I believe. I always see a bunch of HBCUs well represented by people in Atlanta opposed to just a handful you'll see in most major cities.

AUC alumni I'm pretty sure runs Atlanta but FAMU is definitely second. Alabama State, AAMU, Tuskegee, Southern, Hampton, Jackson State, Grambling, Tennessee State, A&T, and Howard have a notable presence in Atlanta as well based on my research and observations.

yea I see more HBCU flags and tags than I do PWIs. Its wonderful living in a place where the HBCU network is huge

I actually think many days I see more Alabama and Auburn than UGA and Ga Tech when it comes to PWI pride .... strange since UGA and Ga. Tech are in-state schools.

Albany doesnt have a TV market... yes its in Georgia but its not close to a major city at all.

Right that's almost hard to believe that over 1500 students just suddenly decided to not return to school for the spring semester.

TENNESSEE STATE OR BUST

The SWAC commissioner said he's not going after Tenn St. because they are happy with OVC ... but Tennessee State fans get most excited when they play HBCUs and make the most money from HBCU games usually so I don't think Tenn St. has good leadership. FAMU was unhappy with the MEAC which is why it was so easy for the SWAC to steal them.

See 10:30 mark

It's really up to TnSU to initiate a move to the SWAC. They'll need to start an exploratory commity to determine if it's worth the financial costs. I think FAMU to the SWAC now being official changes the calculus for TnSU, and they will seriously consider it. They owe it to themselves to at least look and see of it's in their best interests. If the numbers work out, I expect TnSU to announce a move within 1 year from now, and move to the SWAC in 2-3 years time. That's unless we accept another 12th member before then.
