Hold up ...

What’s the last innovative thing y’all seen your team do?

Remember, a lot of stuff you’re seeing right now in football (including playing fast) has been around at least 40 to 60 years

SU and Gram were one of the first college teams to have the new communication system from Coach comm.

When I speak of innovation, I'm talking about hiring coaches with the ability to understand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics aka STEM to help give his players a competitive edge. Most HBCUs have those resources available, such as engineering and physic programs. I remembered Doc Greggs telling us how he got a Civil Engineering student to help him determine some of his drill formations. I think too many our coaches are like Black preachers. They are always looking for some miracle to win games they are clueless on winning.

Like utilizing engineering students to develop tackling dummies like Dartmouth

Or calculating a player's abilities based on their physical stature. In some cases, you can used an opponent's attributes against them.

Hmmm ... that’s what I’m talking about. Utilizing students to conduct analytics projects in baseball and other sports. That’s a growth market.

I really learned the disparity in Power 5 coaches vs. Some HBCU coaches when I read about how Alabama recruits physique. Linemen with thin calves and flat asses were a no-no. Logic was, power is generated from the feet thru the hips and waist. No need for a 6'4, 330lb lineman when all his muscle mass is above his torso.

Even going back to the 1990s, power 5 programs had analytics staff (quality control assistants).

You cant get some of these guys to even break down basic opponent tendencies

Investing a bunch of money and resources into a football program doesn’t necessarily translate to success.

Just look at Maryland.

But six years later, department financial records show a football program dwindling in popularity despite its high-profile athletic conference and a $196 million investment by private donors, the university and the state in a new football field house and multipurpose center. The annual budget records — obtained in a Public Information Act request — chronicle year-over-year declines in football ticket sales revenue and outside donations to the team, even as expenses such as coaching salaries, recruiting, scholarships and team travel are rising.

Nobody cares about Terrapin football. Thats a waste of money. They were better off putting that into the basketball program.

do our coaches use advanced analytics? do they even know there are next gen stats available for their teams?

Hell no. I don't even think any of our coaches understands what that even means. These lazy ass coaches aint going into depth like that. They are and have become like the average fan. The average fan now knows more, with some much being exposed on TV and YT and other platforms, you as the average fan start to see these things.

You begin to see why your school is so far behind and begin to see how these coaches study details of the game, and then understand that majority of this whole separation isn't all about money, it's about putting in time and being a student of the game.

These coaches aint in the film room looking at "other" good schools coaches and copying their game plans

If I was a coach in this sad ass league, my whole football team would be based around the coaching of a Kirby, or a Saban, my defense would be doing everything that their defense do. Yea I know we don't have their 5 star players, but I still have a kid at DB that can play like a 5 star player.

Danny Williams should have been the Kilpatrick in this league Bama #29 or should have been playing like LSU's #9 Deplit but our coaches are so obtuse and basic, they just had dude lining up at DB instead of having his ass around the LOS causing havoc like how Saban had Kilpatrick and how LSU's DC has #9 around the LOS roaming

Amen! We don't learn from our mistakes. Basically, we need to stop waiting for some 5 star recruit to walk through the door, and start maximizing our potential on our teams.

Talent wise, the SWAC should be matching up with Southland conference. But, we only game plan for the fall, and not the entire year. No way, Nicholls State, Mcneese or Southeastern Louisiana should be outpacing us.

How many of our schools have nutrition plan? We don't even focus on the basics.

We have to change our mentality. Look at Sears, Winn-Dixie, and K-Mart. They are not barely hanging on by a tread. Why? They didn't adjust or adapt to business climate. You can't operate on a 90's mentality in this age.

Lol, Breh, I hear you, I got mean looks when I called out folks and said that we are still living like we are in 1998. Been said that basic ass football that we see now is equivalent to JV high school ball.

I remember Odums yelling that dumb ass stuff about we don't have a nutrition plan but dude, you don't even know what to do with a top FS if one was to come to your school Lol, like learn how to use talent first before you start asking for what you don't have. Breh Lol, shit is sad smh.

I go hard on him and his staff because they have NO excuse it's about them not wanting to want and do more and stay basic like the rest of these sad ass basic, outdated ass coaches in this league.

That's why I said, we shouldn't hire no more coaches over 40, any coaches that's coached in this league, any coaches that hasn't won in the last 2 or 3 years.

If your presentation to get hired don't have any innovation plans on improving the status of the football is not present, Nope, don't want you. If you don't have a 2 year vision, nope. I want to see game film on how your teams play, I want to see if you actually get players better, has your QB, skill players, improve under your last coaching stance. Like man, them days of hiring old dusty, crusty ass coaches that's been in this league should end this year.
Shit is killing this league. No way in hell I'd be paying TxSU coach that salary he makes, no way in fukin hell. Dude finessing his ass off and can't put together a winning season, those kids deserve better.

If you aint winning where you're current at, don't even apply. Youth should be up and down the sidelines. I want a 24 year Offensive Co, dayum white boys become O.Cs and D.C. at 24, I know there's a young black kid out there, but we recycle these old crusty outdated ass coaches. FOH man, tired of that sht

Man that's just regular stats put into a graph. They ALL have this already.
there are companies that provide the service for schools. I can't see what they have but many schools (none in the swac that I know of, but Yale has a student group that does this) have a statistician on staff that does the money ball type advanced stats work.

Speaking of nutrition, go to 7:48 of the video. Next level on getting your guys fed, life skills, accustomed to being in front of a camera.

Can you post what you saw from Yale?
