can go into Kansas and win, why can't SWAC schools do this? If this had been a SWAC school, the score would have been 49 to 10, 62 to 6, 58 to 12, and so on. Nichols has a budget smaller than most SWAC schools but yet small white pubic universities like Nichols consistently over the years are able to go into these hostile environments and win or play competitively. What is Nichols State doing that SWAC schools are not doing? Is it coaching? Or what?

Nicholls has a veteran squad (John Fourcade’s son at QB has been good since he was at Rummel) and went in and beat a vulnerable Power 5 team. Nicholls gets torn to shreds by TCU.

No different than NCAT beating lower regarded FBS teams. Perfect storms.

For Nicholls, it ain’t gonna mean squat if they don’t win the Southland.
 
Without even looking at their roster, I'm willing to bet if you look at the size of their offensive line and the size of their front seven on defense you'll find the answer. Which speaks to the recruiting philosophy of their coach. I'm just as willing to bet their coach does not recruit to compete within his conference but instead recruits to compete with FBS schools. If that is what he's doing competing within his conference will take care of itself.

Nicholls caught my attention the way they competed against Texas A&M last season.
 
I can't say that it's better coaching but they probably have better Talent on the average also. For some reason that 2* and that overlooked kid that should be ranked at two or three star will many times decide to go to Nichols instead of going to Southern.
As I've heard some of you say many times the ice seems to be colder.
 
Great question. But its something that our schools are not doing right. It comes down to the mentality of the coaches and preparation. I mean preparing your players to not be fearful of opponents that may seem superior to you. A&T has overcome that hurdle on a consistent basis. Also, there are some posters who consistently downplay what A&T has done. Its still a great accomplishment. I don't care how that team is performing on the FBS level. No SWAC school is beating those teams.

Kansas is undergoing a massive rebuilding project. Just four years ago, the Jayhawks had 39 scholarship players on its roster. They have about 70 now. But they are a long way away from being a competitive football team. They hadn't won a road game in almost a decade.

They get cusa, aac type players from surrounding states. It’s usually the only Big 12 offer they’ll have and they run with it.

As for Nicholls they got big Ollie in from last chance u, you think he could’ve gotten in our schools? They didn’t get good just cause of coaching.

Bruh, in 2016 Nicholls went into Athens, GA and lost 26-24 to a top 10 Georgia team. Man, Nicholls can flat out play and they have great coaching. I think I'm going to Thibodaux when Sam Houston plays them later this month.

Just did a quick comparison.... TSU has more 300lb+ players than Nicholls.
 
I will say Nicholls has some kids that went to U High in BR. I don't think many of those kids would go to SU or another SWAC school. On the other hand, there are kids from Glen Oaks and Tara playing for Nicholls. I'd think some of those kids would look at a SWAC school. I noticed that Nicholls has more big corners (6 ft and taller) than I thought they would.

Okay, so I failed to mention talent/ability in the equation, but I did mention recruiting philosophy of the coach. I get your point, but it goes without saying my school would absolutely lose to Kansas right now because of our lineman.
 
Lets not forget that Nicholls went between the hedges last year and nearly beat the national champion runner-up Georgia Bulldogs. The Kansas win was not a fluke based on their high quality performance year over year.

We need to flow some of that same Bayou Lafourche water to Baton Rouge and Grambling because Nicholls is getting it done and putting Louisiana FCS football on the map. It is immaterial that Kansas is bottom tier. The Jayhawks are out of the Big 12 and a historical Southland conference doormat beat them. Extreme conditions are apparent on both sides.

Especially at a school named after a Confederate General (Francis T. Nicholls) and whose mascot is a Confederate Colonel. After all the protest over removing Confederate monuments, which started in New Orleans, it would seem like most Black kids would be reluctant to go there. If I was a kid being recruited by different schools, the school's name would be the first thing I look at and what is its meaning to the school. It says a lot about the historic philosophy of the school.

Louisiana has other FCS programs (McNeese and Southeastern) that have done what Nicholls is doing now. It always seems like every year one of Louisiana's Southland Conference schools play above their expectations. Northwestern State has yet to join that group, but I'm pretty sure they will one day. McNeese had been a solid program for awhile, they are now getting challenged by other Southland Conference schools. Southeastern was somewhat a surprise after not having a football program for years. Being that they are in New Orleans, UNO could probably have a pretty good program, if they had a football team. A lot of the kids at Nicholls are from the New Orleans area, which is a surprise to me now after the Confederate monument crisis. But I'm sure a lot of those kids were sold on the colder ice theory.

Man, I hear you on the name of the school and the significance of that name of the school, but the reality is if you haven't been taught or influenced by some adult to take a deeper look, you have this........

They have a lot of black Baton Rouge kids also. Crazy
 
Better coaching.

They know how to coach on the level of their competition.

That tired ass coaching that we do in the SWAC won't beat the lowest FBS school.

SWAC coaching is on the scale of JV HS coaching.

A HS team outta Texas or any state, that has the numbers would be a SWAC coach.

SWAC coaches are ass.

Those coaches are better and understand details and know how far the coaching hole goes. The SWAC coaches just know the basic, 11 men to have on the field, 4 downs, the most points wins, type basic sht.
