HBCU Coaches on Hot Seat

Coachless is the word that comes to mind when thinking about JState. Y'all have had the same number of coaches the past 6-7 seasons as we have had the past 2 decades. lol

Great observation because if we had kept the two who were beating SUs azz, we woulnt be having this convo.

We dont. Traditionally you all played us with losing records. Ya;ll were like Valley to us til Pete came and Valley to us again until we fired Comegy.

You do realize Coach Odums was kicking Comegy's butt before ya'll fired him. Comegy last game at JSU was after the SCG in 2013. Almost immediately after that game, Da Queen wasted no time in firing Comegy. And every since then, JSU's football has been straight poo.

JSU faithful, keep an eye on T.C. Taylor, the current OC at NC Central. Famous alum and successful player at JSU. If the Eagles have a successful season this year, he could be one of the lead candidates if Hughes is let go following next season. Taylor would be a solid fit.

But he's not interim tho. Jsu needs a coach with HC experience..

"TRADITIONLESS"... thanks GSUperTiger

Funny how the two schools that say SU is traditionless trail in the over series with us. Football is just one sport. SU has had more great athletes than any. Here's a few.

Football:
Mel Blount
Aeneas Williams
Harold Carmichael
Isiah Robertson

Basketball:
Robert 'Butterbean' Love
Avery 'Little General' Johnson
Bobby Phills

Baseball:
Lou Brock
Rickie Weeks

Track:
Willie Davenport
Rodney Milburns

And just throw the Jukebox in for good measure:
Randy Jackson
Branford Marsalis

With Grambling, the overall series is 36-33 SU and the Bayou Classic series is 23-21 GSU. And the list above doesn't include the number of great alums who went on to put other HBCUs on the map (i.e. RWE Jones). It's totally insane for one to try to call their daddy traditionless.

And to add, from 1946 to 1961, Coach Robinson only beat Coach Mumford one time in 1947. Mumford's record against Robinson is 5-1. As someone previously stated, SU had two coaches (Mumford and Richardson) who completely dominated Coach Robinson.

As far as I'm concern Ace William Mumford and Pete Richardson are the best head coaches in Swac history.

I wont argue that. Everyone has their opinion. To me, Comegy messed up. He could have been a legend at JSU but deep down, Comegy lacks the heart of a true coach, especially when it came to out of conference games. During his time at JSU, Comegy lost 20 games by less than a TD. If he had won half of those, he would have ranked among the best. EVERY game counts.

Actually, that is not true. The Queen fired Comegy based on something that happened close to two weeks after we left Houston. Had nothing to do with SU. Also, JSU had a good portion of HEAVY supporters who wanted OMJ so when Comegy fuked up, it was an easy move to give that faction of fans with deep pockets what they had been asking for over 20 years.

TC would definitely be considered but I think the staff we have now will get the job done.

I would like to see TC Taylor come in. Get some youthful energy in there and energize the J-State program ...

I'm sure he was fired for other reasons, but his last game coaching JSU was the SCG in 2013 after the lost to SU.

One thing I can say, a strong JSU would help the SWAC in overall attendance. Right now, the Bayou Classic is well attended due to SU and GSU fighting to be the champions in the West.
