A star football recruit chose Grambling over Univ. of Alabama

Priority recruit in what sense? University of Florida offered the kid, was it a contingency offer? Or are you speaking of "priority" based on the school doing the recruiting?

Why would we make it seem that since he choose Grambling he was really not a target of the SEC on a priority basis. It could be because Coach Fobbs and his staff did a hell of a job during the recruiting process. This young man may have started from day 1 at UA as a DB and he probably wants to showcase his skills as a QB and Grambling provided that opportunity. Great job Tigers.

All offers arent committable offers. Even if his was committable, he likely would have been a grayshirt candidate based on depth at the positions he plays

The reality is that this does not happen enough. I'll take the small victories and revel in them (Gram), but until this type of change happens en masse, the status quo will continue to be PWIs getting the 4 and 5 stars and most coveted high school athletes. I not trying to take this thread off the rails, but the reality is that this does not happen enough. Whatever the motivation for this kid to select Grambling over the perceived better offer(s) is moot. I'm just glad that he did it.

If I'm not mistaken he was recruited by at least 3 or 4 SEC schools....competitive or not being offered a scholarship by what may be the strongest conference in college football is a statement.

More importantly Fobbs and staff need to be given their props for their recruiting efforts.

No doubt about that. We complain about the coaches that wont even pick up the phone on these players. Hopefully others fall in line

He’s not playing QB for Grambling. He’ll play either CB or FS.

He’s coming in as a safety. The coaches asked him what position he wanted to play and he said he wanted to play safety over QB and he thinks it is something he will be great at on the next level. This kids is wise beyond his years.
 



Congrats Grambling. With the loss of the majority of your offense and some good defensive players, hopefully guys like this can help keep Grambling afloat.
 
He was sitting on offers from Alabama, LSU and Memphis but chose Grambling. He didn't get hurt or committed and then decommitted and chose Grambling. He chose Grambling from the start. That's something to be commended. We need more of these as over the past few years we've shown that we can get played drafted playing 4 years in the SWAC (including this year in which we probably will get 2-3 players drafted and a lot of talented players going the UDFA route)
 
It's about time. I have never understood why these supposedly great athletes didn't mind being practice players for four years. Why do schools like Bama have 100+ plus players, Bama dress player having the same number for games.
 
Like I mentioned in our private forum regardless of his play his conviction to attend Gram is a victory in itself. When prospective recruits realize he chose Gram over Bama and self-proclaimed flagship university in LSU, I am sure they are saying Gram must be a special place.

Saban does not offer just anyone a scholly. He has an eye for talent. I remember Saban’s first recruiting class at LSU. He recruited a similar athlete like Gram’s new commitment Maurice in Corey Webster out of St. James High School. Corey was also a QB, but moved to DB and became 1st team SEC, All-American, and starter and champion of two SuperBowls.

For Saban to offer means Maurice can play.
