Urlacher doesn't like the Carolina Panthers QB's over-the-top showboating

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is always a topic of conversation among NFL fans these days, but that was even more true on Wednesday.

At his mid-week press conference, Newton sparked another round of conversation by saying race affects how he's perceived. "I'm an African-American QB that scares people because my skill set isn't like anybody else," Newton said.

I don't understand this call for class and humility in sport at the professional level, especially in when this is part of the entertainment industry.

Plus, these football players are literally risking their lives for money, validation, and for all the spoils that come with achievement.

Humility is an overrated ass quality, especially in competition.

It's all about not hurting the other guy's fragile ego while celebrating your own successes.

Cam Newton dabbing bother you. Too bad. Joey Bats throwing his bat to Montreal after a bomb hurts your feelings. So.

Why can't sports be fun?

People who say mess like this have very fragile egos, jealousy and underlying racism. They never talk about the good things he does, just celebration antics which hurts no one. If he doesn't like it, turn his head when he's doing it or just simply ignore it. It's not THAT hard to do.

Showboating?

Good Morning America touched on this a couple of days ago or at least commented, on the fact that no one not even the NFL has an issue with this blatant show boater, but when Cam does it then they have issues.
I'm a die hard Bears fan win or lose, but Urlacher can go suck a fat one. But at least we know where he stands now. He can say stupid crap like this since he's retired, if he were still playing he wouldn't get away with it.

Tom Brady and Gronk do demonstrative celebrations all the time. Nothing said.
QBs can't celebrate if you are black.

All great points! Manning story I remembered, but they swept it under the rug, like his drug story. The TE from the Chiefs, Brady and Gronk can celebrate, and if you are Farve, you can get away with exposing yourself over your cell phone but Cam, they get uptight and undertone racism comments come when he does it. Don't understand why we think things will change. The more they change, the more they stay the same.

While I think it is stupid to be critical of Cam Newton dancing, and there is a lot of racism rooted in that criticism, I don't believe those who are criticial of Cam, like Urlacher and others are racist.

The first real criticism of Cam dancing this season came from two black players on the Titans. And a lot of old heads regardless of race, don't care, have never cared, too much for the post play celebrating either. It's not what they grew up with as being acceptable.

If Bob Gibson thought that you were showing him up, he would throw at your head.

Howie Kendrick, a black man who plays for the Dodgers, ain't down with the exuberance of Latin players.

A lot of this stems from race, cultural and genrational differences.

What two Black players? Heck, they were probably mimicking what the White folks were saying just to stay in good with them. Plus they were getting their ass kicked up and down the field.
Black folks celebrate all the time and talk noise, especially on the basketball court in the hood.
As far as the old heads are concerned, a lot of them old heads back in the day knew that they had to stay in their place, so they couldn't do what Cam's doing even if they wanted to.

And baseball has a totally different culture than basketball and football. Baseball players have VERY fragile egos. Just tossing a bat after a home run upsets grown men for crying out loud.
