Domed or Doomed: JSU's Plans for New Stadium


I want to know why alabama state's 27k seat stadium cost 62 million and a 35k stadium for jsu would be between 250 - 280 million? bama state could have 4 27k stadiums for what jsu is paying. have interest rates gone up that much in the interim?
 



No JSU administrator has stated anything about the dome concepts....you want to know why because their is nothing to say...this is just the newspaper searching for a story that isnt there...:read: there is nothing to talk about peope!

You would have a point if the Dome was never intended for JSU use-only. People want to make comments but never read the reason behind the 50K. Of course JSU does not need a 50K seat dome so I don't know why people keep saying that. The 50K seat facility was to help the economy of CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI. The dome was to be a centerpiece for growth, jobs, and entertainment. However, while the city and state would benefit THE MOST, the city is broke and the state has yet to jump on the bandwagon.

BOTTOMLINE: This was never supposed to be for JSU. JSU was just going to take all of the risk which was never fair. To do what needs to be done in downtown Jackson, developers, the city, state and JSU need to make at least a $500M investment. People have had great plans for Jackson but none of it is ever realized. I never wanted JSU to have a 50K seat dome but I would totally support a 35K facility. I would only support a 50K seat dome if the city and state, who would benefit from it, invested in it.

Even when it comes to football, "our people" are not fans of the elements. Even a slight chance of rain will take attendance from 20K to 10K ... and don't let it be cold. I think a dome would IMMEDIATELY increase our average attendance by 5K and spur growth for more. But again, this is not for JSU. It's for Mississippi. JSUs growth depends on Jackson's growth and Mississippi's growth depends on the economy. It's all related!

..and don't nobody want a stadium like that at Alabama State that sits on the ground and has a lil side.

The stadium we have now is better than yours. I'm in NO hurry to leave Memorial. I don't see the point in leaving. We don't pay for schitt over there and there is NOTHING wrong with the stadium. The only problem with it is that it is too big for us but so is a 50K seat dome.

That MAY be true, but they are robbing your azz blind.
 
The only reason this is being dragged out is because JSU is attached to it (although it's going to be used by and meant to benefit all of Mississippi). I want to see it happen because it would be great for Mississippi and JSU is due a stadium. We'll see how this plays out over the next year or so

Let JSU end up getting a 35-40K seat open air stadium. I promise you within a year or two they will build something similar in Madison County

I think the numbers are for a dome not an open air stadium.

Engineering and construction of a stadium with a roof compared to open-air costs significantly more. The HVAC system would have to be much more extensive, and I'd imagine there would be more extensive electrical and audio systems as well, not to mention the structure itself.

For entertainment purposes much like the proposed dome. The Coliseum and the Vet are relics man. You're not getting any big name acts to do shows in those facilities (well in the Vet you could do it in the summer time but it just doesn't happen).

As it was said last year when this was put out there, it's a waiting game between Mississippi (who wants UMC to get that land the Vet sits on) and JSU (who can get the state to pay for upkeep of the Vet so it's costing them nothing)

The biggest cost is building a structurally sound truss system to span a complete football field plus seating area without any column support, which is why domes like the Georgia Dome was designed with a Teflon-coated fiberglass fabric that is cable supported for its roof. The material is lightweight and is easily replaced. The Super Dome will probably remain as the largest fixed domed structure ever built in the world since newer domes are designed with lighter roof material that doesn't support anything. I do believe the Georgia Dome's structure was seriously damage when it was hit by a tornado a few years ago and engineers made the assessment that it would be cost efficient to replace it instead of repairing it. Whereas during Hurricane Katrina, the Super Dome's roof material was blown off by the wind and the interior was damaged by the people that had taken shelter on the inside of it from the storm, but by it being a fixed structural dome, the dome remained structurally sound, therefore making it more cost efficient to repair than replace.

Here's a picture of the massive amount of steel that it took to construct the Super Dome. There would be no other dome constructed with that amount of steel again.

Why do they keep forgetting this? JSU's playing in Memorial for free but they keep saying we're losing money.

I'd like to see how much it costs eachSWAC school for individual stadium upkeep verses what JSU's paying.
That will settle the story once and for all.

its some hideous stadiums in the FCS football world who wish they had Memorial and our fan base!
 
I would love to see JSU with a dome....it would put more pressure on other schools to step their game up.....also it could serve a number of other purposes to benefit JSU. People just need to quit hating so damn much.
