why & How does "white flight" destroy a community?


...not having any numbers to back up my statement :lol:

From what I've seen usually with "white flight", businesses leave as well. I don't know if it's because of "white flight" the businesses leave...or if the businesses left prior to "white flight" (which is why the white folks left).

But isn't it often stated that Black people are the biggest consumers? We do all the spending but own nothing?
Make nothing, just a large group of consumers?

Seems like business would want to stay in the area where the "biggest consumers" are?
 
Usually property values decrease, HOA's fall apart so upkeep of neighborhoods go down, police presence is laxed, businesses go away because they claim crime is worse but it's because the white dollars does not frequent the area anymore. It's simple if Dwight aint spending money in the area no one wants to invest in the area. The City stops taking good care of the common areas, blight is left for years. Poor community leaders etc...It's a downward spiral.

We buy shoes,clothes,purses, cars. We don't buy the big ticket items in bunches, spend boat loads of money on art and home decor, we don't tip at restaurants or we do but we act a dayum fool over every little thing.....Man we are sometimes our own worst enemy....

Why do property values decrease?
Why do HOA fall apart?
What If the police force is mostly black, is their presence still laxed?
Why do the common areas become neglected after “white flightâ€￾ but not prior?

Why does paper appear on the ground after "white flight"?
Why does grass disappear from yards after "white flight"?
Why does grass remain over grown after "white flight"?
Why do gas stations have lots of people just standing around after "white flight"?
Why do people barbeque in the front yard and not the back yard after "white flight"?

we are the biggest consumers and unfortunately we travel with our money to other neighborhoods so there's no need for the businesses to stay where the $$$ lives.

Other than being racist, is there any other reasons why white people continue to move, when black
people start to move close?

I don't know. :lol:

If it's simply because the white person moved because the new neighbor is black...then that's just simply racism.

If they attempted to live next to the new person for a while and it didn't work for whatever reason (loud, unkempt property, etc.) then that's not necessarily racism.

Two words, Clayton County. Look at what it was in the early 90's vs what it is now and you'll see why they move. When they see us move in they automatically assume the crime rate will rise and the property values will fall. Unfortunately, we don't help much with that stigma. The school systems fall apart, etc. And you'd think it's just when the hood folk move in but... then if you look at PG County in MD I never understood how the hell it's one of, if not the most prominent black areas in the entire country but the crime is awful. Same for Cascade, million dollar homes on one block and shootings on the next. I'm not sure if it would matter either way but I grew up in a pretty mixed (50% black/50% white) neighborhood. But then again, that was in the country where there weren't exactly many places to move to anyways and the crime was slim to none.

So did crime rise in Clayton County? If so why?
WHY in the world is crime high in an affluent place like PG county?

I here all the time Schools go to hell when the white folks leave. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? What is the mechanism, what wheels are instantly put in motion for this when white people leave?
 
The Whites that have taken flight from the inner city were able to keep their jobs in the inner city, but they have taken their money and tax revenue to their nice majority White bedroom communities outside of the inner city, which is why the City of Detroit and most American cities that are shrinking in population are financially struggling.

Also, it has become a generational thing. The children of those same Whites that have moved away from the inner city years ago, grow up and continue to come back to the inner city for the same jobs their parents once had, but continue to migrate further away from the inner city.

This thread sounds like a "White is right", "grass is greener on the other side" type of discussion. I don't know if that's where you are trying to go or not. One of the reasons why I haven't replied to your posts where you ask the "Why" questions is because there are plenty of "good" neighborhoods that are predominantly Black, or are pretty evenly diverse, that don't fit those descriptions.

Some people are just not "civilized" or have no home training. We've all heard of the term "trailer park trash" when describing a white person that's not "civilized". The difference between them and us, in my opinion, is we try to lump all of us together and we allow others to lump all of us together.
 
We are NOT the biggest consumers. Someone made up a post on social media and Black folks ran with it. We buy more of certain things, but not nearly overall.

Actually, those white kids are moving to the heart of the city. My apartment complex is about 65% white and we are in the middle of the hood in DC.

Because the people in DC are being priced out and are moving to PG county. This is causing a lot of crime in the area.

1. It could be because their neighbors don't cut their grass

2. Or they don't keep their property up (junk everywhere)

3. disturbing the peace with noise (loud parties, loud vehicles, etc)

4. paint their house a certain color

5. have pets

Thanks for asking the questions that "we" don't. The answers are that we don't care what the HOA says, don't participate and don't understand or care about property value. The common areas go neglected because we don't care to hold anybody accountable for them if they are city maintained and don't hire lawn people if they are community maintained. We prefer to just say "the city don't care" when the opportunity arises. There's also a problem with "white return". When the whites come back the businesses come back and the property taxes go up and the next thing you know people are screaming gentrification.

Now to be fair whites don't just flee blacks. They flee whites too. Its not just blacks that don't care about their neighborhoods. Go to any suburb where there are lots of lease homes and you'll see white people doing the same things and white people fleeing from them. The thing is there are way more of them that understand property value to form neighborhoods than there are of us.
 
Let's be real....white folks don't want to live around black folks even if we make more than them. Also, in our soceity it has been deemed that white is right no matter what. It's sickening and ridiculous if you ask me.

Hell look at Grambling. All these educated folk and we don't have a bank or grocery store. Why? Because some black folks feel that ice water from white folks is colder than ice water from black folk...then when we do get a business black folk walk expecting a hook up because "we been knowing each other for years" or you don't want to see your friend in a better condition than you...fugg it....one word

Then we get mad when our neighborhoods suffer. Look at Ferguson. Explain this:

So these white folks move and they are still in power positions. So should we still blame white people or our fellow black folks? Should we examine the numbers of black folks with felonies who are unaware that they can petition to get their voting rights back....

I think outside of Ferguson our black people have a deeper problem. It's like Buckwheat has KRS-1 as his avatar pointing at his brain. We need to think. Some of us listen to give a response rather than listening to institute change.

Also many of our black folks look down upon each other. Oh he does not use proper english...I can't be around him...oh her name is Boomsheka...she must come a ghetto family....oh I knew her mother back in the day she is going to be a whore also... Heck we talk ourselves out of success.

We can have nice neighborhoods but we have to teach our kids from a young age to value items that are investments...like houses...their credit...land...
 
I'm sorry, but white flight doesn't destroy a community. Whites move to their own communities and the educated successful blacks run behind them like puppies. Once they see us they slowly role out, 'White Flight'. When they leave there is enough successful educated blacks to maintain those communities and sustain the businesses. Instead of staying put and building up our own, we start the 'Black Flight' and run behind whites again. The cycle has been on going since integration.

Exactly....I know a guy here in Grambling who built a community. People purchased the homes and it was a pretty neighborhood for people who purchased their first home. Shit....every month the neighborhood goes down. Broken down cars parked on the side of the road. Kids running all behind folks houses....kids standing at the entrance throwing rocks at folks cars...stray dogs...:shame:
