Former Buffalo Bills defensive back, Derrick Burroughs, returns to the state of Tennessee where he played for the University of Memphis. Burroughs was named as the Athletic Director and head football coach for Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Burroughs’ Tennessee roots stems from his football accolades as a defensive back from 1980 – 1985. He was first team all conference, voted Defensive Player of the Year, was selected to the 1985 Blue Gray All-Star team where he was voted the game’s defensive MVP and went on to be selected to the Senior Bowl. Burroughs graduated from Memphis receiving a degree in Criminal Justice/ Criminology. Immediately following, he continued his football career as the 14th overall player taken in the 1st round by the Buffalo Bills in the 1985 NFL draft.
Burroughs was forced to retired from professional football following a serious neck injury but vowed to remain dedicated to the sport as mentor and coach. His 14 years as coach with National Football League (NFL) teams in the US and Europe, including Arena and the XFL football leagues and a five year participation in the NFL minority internship-coaching program, has landed him back with his passion for coaching at the collegiate level. Prior to his current position at Lane College, he has coached at nationally recognized colleges and universities including Alabama State University, Clark College in Atlanta and Knoxville College. He has a passion for coaching the defensive side of the ball and has held positions that include: Director of Operations and Cornerback coach for the UFL; Defensive Coordinator; Pass Defense Coordinator; Assistant Head Coach; and, Receivers, Special Teams and Defensive Back Coach at the NFL and collegiate levels.

Thanks dude, now back to the DC and what he will bring to JSU and the SWAC.

He has a buttload of experience on the defensive side if he can be the opposite of hayes, we will have a good defense. Hayes played man defense when opposing team was on 3rd and 18.

You are so right. JSU historically recruits defensive players. All they needed was someone who could actually run a zone defense when the time called for and a man to man. Comegy and crew didn't know how to run a simple zone defense on 3rd and 25.:smh:

Burroughs seems to have quite a bit of experience on both sides of the ball, including head coach experience. Perhaps he can be the assistant head coach or coach in waiting.
This guy brought a sorry Lane college from 0-11 to 6-4. That's a seven game turnaround and with far less resources than they'd have at JSU.

If he can make lane highschool go from homecoming bait to .500, im wondering what he could do here. Our staff in my eyes is coming here with a clean towel. Nobody can dirty their towel but themselves. Anxious to see the complete staff and see what type of team they will field with the players we have.

Burroughs is a good man and coach. He should contribute to JSU recruiting efforts in the Mobile area.

Re: JSU Offensive Coordinator- Derrick Burroughs

How many jsu ppl talked about Alcorn when we hired Hopson? Now the shoe is on the other foot and some can't handle it. I guess they will take their ball and go home now.

The difference is.. (and this is not meant to be smack), JSU is a winning program. Alcorn is not. It will be hard for Jackson not to win at JSU. It's hard to lose at JSU. The only teams we have to ever worry about are TNState and Grambling or or some team that is cheating (like AlaState or TxSo under the Cole Brothers). Grambling is a non-factor for a while.

What does that have to do with my comments? I can agree with your winning tradition but that has nothing to do with my comments. If you talk s____ to everybody else on this board it will come back to you. No exceptions.

I didn't talk about Hobson.. but I was just saying that if people did, it was becasue they had no faith in the Alcorn program. And JSU fans talk schitt for one reason: We can! :D

LMAO @ these comments. Oh well. ~snicker~

This is NOT the smack board. :smh:

But.. YA'LL 'GON LEARN!

It's called a rivalry :) . Maybe some of y'all need to do the same to bring life to some of your games.

This is not about the game, it's a thread about a DC....

More BS.....

Man, I'm reading this thread trying to learn about JSU's new DC and it's been hijacked with foolishness. Can we get back to the DC? JSU folks what kind of defense did he have at Lane?

It's always the same folks from both of the schools. One will whine about them doing it to them and then the other will whine about them doing it to them. It's a full circle by the usual suspects all the dam time.
