Jabbar Juluke (Edna Carr) to La. Tech....Your Thoughts...

I could be wrong though, but from judging from other coaches salaries I know, no way. This is Louisiana lol.

Tech may be facing cutbacks but they are no broke. Sony Dykes was making $750k if I'm not mistaken. Furthermore each time the state cuts their budget alumni step in and replace it. The state just cut $900k and some alumni just had a presentation to Tech of the weekend at Squire Creek and donated a check...

It's interesting to me how some of you can say this is a bad decision for him or be surprised. Tech may not be an LSU but it damn sure is not a bottom feeder school. Tech made a horrible decision not to go to the Independence Bowl and with the flack it caught last week at Squire Creek from those alumni who made that hefty donation it will not happen again.

Now like I said he made the right choice because I think he wants to coach at the FBS level. Coaching is a business and you look for that opening and exploit it.

I see him being a successful Head Coach within the next 10 years.

It seems like you SU folks are a little sour about this. Would you all have liked him to be an assistant at SU?

Truth be told they stated on the news that he was hired at Tech to recruit those guys from south Louisiana.

Also, when I have time I will go by Tech's reference section in their library and find out his salary.

Yes, remember we discussed they were the only public school to win a LA. state football championship this year?

That's right..thanks for reminding me. So was he also teaching or just coaching? I'm asking because with Piyush Jindal's cuts to education I can't see a coach being paid over $70k. I could be wrong but that is a stretch for Louisiana.

It would depend on what his base teaching salary is. Different school districts pay different % for their coach stipends. And then if he is the AD too, that would boost his salary even more. I know some school districts pay their coaches almost 20% of their base salary for being the head coach for football.

No bitterness over here. I'm happy to see the fellow Purple Knight move up and do his thing. I remember watching him playing ball at St. Aug and the day he signed with Tulane out of high school.

Come on mannnnnnn...:emlaugh: It's how you all have been sideline dissing this move.

What are you talking about? SU Jags are happy for dude. One of the things most SU alums have said is he has to go get COLLEGE experience so maybe one day he could be SU's head coach. No one is pissed off that he is at La Tech. Folks actually were wondering when he was ever going to take the college plunge as an assistant. Surely he waited until he had accomplished what he needed at the HS level and I am sure money plays a role.

How anyone from SU can diss this is beyond me. I don't see it. Juluke name has come up in the past, but most folks were like he would be nice at SU ONE DAY if he got some experience on the college level. Now there are some Jags who think he has not gone out of his way to send any of his players to Southern. But that is the only thing I have heard negative about him. He is a former Pete player and the only thing I ever wondered was why Pete didn't hire him on in some capacity. I don't think the Jag Nation expected Stump or Big Worm to hire him. Who knows if Odums approached him or not as an assistant.

How him going to La Tech would get SU folks riled up or upset doesn't make sense. He was not qualified for the head coach job at SU because he didn't have college experience. Maybe now he will get some if Skip Holtz don't fugg up La Tech's program and the defensive coordinator who he will work under allows him to flourish as a position coach. I think you are making more of an issue than it is. Not like dude is being hired as their DC or Head Coach and SU had passed him up or something. He is simply getting his feet wet on the college side. I hope he does well for himself.

He Really cant go off those salaries because 1 its a new Head Coach 2. They moved to the conference USA which will give them more budget room

Good move on his part... apparently he wants to coach on the collegiate level. Tech has aspirations to advance even beyond CUSA (in time) and will boost salaries accordingly. When Holtz wins and advances on, he's gonna take this New Orleans connection.
