Jackson State had won its last three football games and was playing for the SWAC East Championship and the weather was perfect for a football game on November 10, 2012. The announced attendance for the Jackson State/Alabama A&M game was 8,445.
Where have the fans gone? I had a discussion with some JSU fans yesterday and here are some of the reasons they gave for the decrease in attendance at JSU football games:
1. Ticket prices ($30 for game day is too high, some fans decide game day if they are going to attend the game)
2. Kick off times are too early
3. SWAC rules doesn't allow the band to play like they used to and the games are boring (got to give non-diehard football fans a reason to attend the game)
4. Fans left the game during the Bell era and have not returned
5. SWAC teams are not winning
6. Casinos
Average JSU home attendance from 1987 to 2012:

How do we get the fans to return to JSU/SWAC football games?

But how do they explain the attendance boom the last 2 seasons and then follow it up with the horrible attendance this year?
I think it is The Curse of Dumbbell. Jsu hasn't been the same since or their fan base.
excuses
What's yours?:noidea:
Even in a bad year, we average more than 90 percent of SWAC schools. Like I said, sweep around your own front door before you try to sweep around somebody else's whose doing better than you.
True, but schools like JSU and TSU are at a major advantage over schools like Alcorn and Gram. You guys are located in major cities that are predominately black.
excuses
I was thinking the same thing right before I reached your post boy JayRo was going really hard it those excuses...But Jackson seriouly I am surprise that this was all you guys could pull seeing your team was playing to get somewhere...(whispering-ain't like there was something to else to do in that 2 horse town)!
The attendance is horrible by JSU standards but most SWAC schools would be happy with that average.
Our home schedule was terrible this year and the dates and times of certain games were changed for some unknown reason.
Hope the AD gets our schedule right next season. We shouldn't have to wait almost a whole month for our first home game and most of our games should be after six.
Playing Miss. State didn't help much either.
...for the record...True, but schools like JSU and TSU are at a major advantage over schools like Alcorn and Gram. You guys are located in major cities that are predominately black.

Houston is much closer to PV than Dallas. There was a time when Alcorn was close to the top in SWAC attendance. What's your excuse now? Perhaps that was a fluke time in history.
As far as having a major advantage, your theory is seriously flawed. What about Houston and Texas Southern? That's 4 million folks to choose from, yet they can't average 9,000.
What about Dallas and PV? That's 3 million folks to choose from, yet they can't average 9,000?
