On the real note, his defenses have sucked azz though. What makes Alcorn confident he can turn their program around.

I didnt say the white man was the "better coach"... I just said at a HBCU they get results.... Merfield made Hampton a champion....they won a NCAA tournament game in basketball... same with the coach at FAMU.... am I right or am I wrong.... what they did after doesnt make a difference to me... they were successful at HBCUs. Norfolk was the Mississippi Valley of the MEAC. They just won a MEAC Championship with a white coach. Say it how you want to say it but white coaches succeed at HBCUs.... not saying that Black ones dont.... but I am saying white head coaches succeed at HBCUs.
Again, other than Coach Dave Robbins, what other Coaches were successful with more than 1 (One) Championship??? Anthony Evans Just Did the Same thing at NSU!!!! So your Point?? Nevermind. I guess when white Coaches win at HBCU's at least once, that equals "success". WOW!!! Hey, but to ecah his own. You may want to spin it how you want to spin your statement. It's your Choice. However, flawed it may be.....

Didn't want to bring that up since I will be accused of hating. I have seen what this guy's defenses are about. :smh:

Hopson's defensive units led Conference USA in scoring defense each of his three seasons as defensive coordinator. In 2006, the Golden Eagles led C-USA in third down defense and red zone defense. The 2005 defense led the league in turnovers forced per game and led the nation in fumbles gained.

Prior to his appointment as defensive coordinator, Hopson coached the defensive backs for the Golden Eagles from 2001-03. In 2002, his unit led the nation in fewest passing touchdowns allowed and finished fourth nationally in pass efficiency defense. Southern Mississippi led C-USA and finished fifth nationally in pass defense during the 2003 season. Each year of his tenure, USM ranked in the top 15 nationally in scoring defense.

You know USM is a different animal.
USM defenses have been tearing peoples heads off since Sammy Winder and Reggie Collier was there back in the early 1980's. Why do you think newscasters here have refered to USM's Linebackers and DBs and as LB's and BDs from He!! all these years? Why do you think Ole Miss and Mississippi State stopped playing USM as a OOC game?

Now could you post Marshal, Ole Miss, Memphis, and defensive stats.
He didn't last the year at Memphis in 2011 before they fired him. They fired him 4 games into the season last year.

Just saying.

Merfield had an overall 90-57 record at Hampton... 63-27 conference record.....2 MEAC Championships and went to the second round of the NCAA tournament once in 5 years. So thats two championships.

Mike Gillepsie also won two conference titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament at FAMU...

with NSU.. once again they were the MVSU of the MEAC right before their coach there got there.... even though they had the facilities they were still the doormat of the MEAC. How many SWAC basketball coaches have gone to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament?

Was he DC at Marshal and Ole Miss. I know about Memphis & Memphis is sorry regardless of who the coach is. They continued to suck even after he was gone. Seems to me like it was more than just 1 coach having issues.

Ben Jobe, Southern 1993. Lost to George Washington after beating Georgia Tech in the first round. With you being an AAMU product, I am disappoint....

Probably.

Hope he works out for ya'll because even though I HATE YA'LL azzes, this constant turnover is killing Alcorn football which is killing JSU / Alcorn. Honestly............I want Alcorn to raise a little hell in the SWAC to get things stirred up around here.

You seem to want to exclude USM where he was the DC. But this isn't bad:
Hopson spent 2004 at his alma mater, the University of Mississippi, as defensive backs coach and was the program's recruiting coordinator. The Rebels' pass defense improved from 109th nationally in 2003 to 49th during the 2004 campaign.
Hopson's coaching experience includes positions at Marshall University (1996-2000). He was a member of the Herds' 1996 NCAA I-AA National Championship staff and coached the team to four straight Mid-American Conference championships.

Probably.

But believe me when I tell you I can't wait to get things stirred up.

Its about 10 different arguments going on in these thread. On subject and off subject. LMAO!!!!!!!! Yall making my day at work go by super fast.

His resume doesnt look that impressive..IN ALL SERIOUSNESS...

2010: University of Memphis (DC/SAF)
2008-09: Univ. of Michigan (LB)
2006-07: Southern Miss (DC/MLB)
2005: Southern Miss (DC/DB)
2004: Ole Miss (DB/Recruiting Coord.)
2001-03: Southern Miss (DB)
1996-2000: Marshall (DB)
1995: Univ. of Florida (GA)
1994: LSU (GA)
1993: Delta State (DB)
1992: Tulane (GA)

Alot of lossing teams except for his days at USM reminds me of a certain coach we had at JSU. But he may do well with his connection to big FCS programs...I hear he wants Alcorn to be Transfer Univ. not surprised!

a big congrats to ALCORN again this THREAD might hit the 10 page mark u know u guys havent done that in 2 or 3 years since the McNair case...

JSU had John Shannon yet Get Ready and Others wanted to run him off...just saying.

Also, didn't another QB of color (In HBCU Terms) play for JSU before Casey-O...just saying.

Who are the others? John Shannon is loved around JSU Football dont let what one person speak for every JSU'er!

How am I lying about what I know? There's division at Alcorn over this hiring and you know it. Keep ignoring it if that helps.

Another thing, help me understand why I can't post on a "public" forum about a certain subject. It's not like JSU folks talk about Alcorn THAT much. You oughta be thankful you getting some free air time.

If you make a response to JayRob, don't I have the right to respond back? Simple logic says "yes".

Everyone, that I'm associated with who is a PAYING alumni member on the alumni roster is 100% satisfied..Others, I could care less..Now, that should answer your question.

Buddy, if John Shannon replaced Comegy tomorrow. The only one mad would be GR. There would be a parade in Jackson.

seems like the school up north is highly concerned....they keep posting...

How do you know that I'm not a paying alumni member. I just don't pride in having my name put in the magazine.

But ATLBRAVE, let's hold off on judging Coach Hopson. I'm not letting Dr. Brown off the hook so easily because he waited so late to make the hire.

Anybody knows in that football is a year-round sport and Time is ALWAYS Precious.

Southern University did it with Ben Jobe. NSU was not the MVSU of Football before Coach Adrian got there, but that's your opinion. Gillespie, Cheater, but oh well.... Merfield did well at Hampton. Again Nothing That Many Coaches Had not Done.... Look at what Todd Bozeman has done at Morgan St. 3PEAT MEAC CHAMPIONS. Again, you have your opinion. "White Coach at a HBCU= Success......... You said you didn't say it means "Better Coach". hhhmmmm......... You are entitled to your opinion, and I respectfully Disagree. Again Alcorn made their pick.
