LeBron, Kobe and MJ

Re: LeBron, Kobe and MJ.....

Could LeBron guard the centers of the 80s and 90s. No, he couldn't because they were bigger and more skilled. Can he do it in this era? Yes, because there are not a lot of great post players these days.

That's what this thread is about Kendrick. We are not saying he can't do it in some instances in today's NBA. But not during the stretch of the 80s and early to mid 90s. Hell it would have been hard for him in the late 90s when Shaq, Duncan, and others were still roaming around.

Where's that list of 20 and 20 from both decades (80s and 2000s)

Go check my list. I just did 5 years 90-95 and 2007-2012.

Actually if you do a top 20 from the 80s vs a top 20 from the 2000s it gets even uglier for the new school. Now you are going to have to deal with Bird and Magic in their prime. Moses Malone now comes onto the list. A younger Robert Parrish, Pat Ewing, Olajuwon, David Robinson at the end of the 80s along with the Clyde Drexler, Michael Jordan, Mitch Richmond, Glen Rice, younger James Worthy, Michael Cooper, Byron Scott, Norm Nixon, Isiah Thomas, Adrian Dantley, Karl Malone, Joe Dumars, Mark Aguirre, Dominique Wilkens, Dennis Johnson, George Gervin is still playing at a high level in that decade. Dr. J in his prime, Andrew Toney, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, Lionel Hollins, and this list will get longer and longer. No expansion and the teams were deep with talent. You still had folks like Darryl Dawkins who would have done well in this era. LOL. Bill Walton in the early 80s was dominate. Kareem was still doing his thing, even Bob Lanier was still balling on a playoff team in Milwaukee.

Nobody could stop Lebron James back then, NOBODY. It would be unfair to them guys, true they made the NBA what it is today but nobody would be able to stop him unless they fouled the isht out of him. Lebron would live at the free throw line lol. If you replaced Kobe with Jordan on those Bulls teams the results would be the same. The Spurs of this year would shoot those teams out of the gym, not to mention Tim Duncan dominating in the paint...

Re: LeBron, Kobe and MJ.....

Rose is bigger than them and he would have gotten to rim on those guys. But in that era, he would have been laid out on the floor when he got there. LOL. Now the guy who would have locked him down was a young Dennis Johnson or a Gary Payton in his prime. Even a young Sidney Moncrief.

Forgot about Moncrief...

Frat, why hasn't Lebron just killed everybody now? With the rules of the 80s. Rodman and them goons would have beat the isht out of Lebron every time he came to the hole. He may have been at the free throw line. But he would end up on the floor all the time. I like Lebron and think he is a freak of nature. But don't think he would have just had it easy on them big muscular cats back then. Mahorn and nem would fugg Lebron mind up for even thinking about that. Hell he don't like mofos talking noise now. Larry Bird and those fools always talked trash. They would get in Lebron's head more than you see now. Well some of your fellow Kobe lovers say that Lebron is soft and weak so he would have been punked by them cats then. Yeah I can see Lebron just rolling through the paint against those PF and Centers. One on one, yes he could go by every SF they put in front of them. But he would get challenged once he got to the rim.

Answer this, who would you rather have Durant or James Worthy? Seriously guy lol, James Worthy could play and had all around game but lets be real about it he couldn't stop Durant on a consistent basis. He could easily walk the ball down the court and shoot a three in Worthy's face. Thats how easy it is for him to score. Even if he did dribbled and penetrate he could stop and shoot a mid range jumper. If he is able to shoot over Bynum he could easily shoot over James Worthy.
GF...You missed where someone mentioned Worthy.

He hasnt killed now because the talent level and plus Kobe and Duncan is in his way. Even Boston snuck one in on him, its not gonna get easier for him with Durant and Westbrook not even being in their prime....

I rather have James Worthy in his prime. Durant is on his way. But comparing what I know of JW and what I have seen so far. I would want Big Game James. Dude could spot up and shoot the mid range to somewhat long range jumper. Not Durant range of course. But James all around game was better. Better defensively and he had also could block shots. Both ran breaks well. With James finishing better in my opinion. Like I said, James Worthy was the best combo forward I have ever seen. He could play the PF position and could play the SF position at an All Star level. Durant is only better at long range shooting than Worthy. Worthy also could rebound better and we dunk on your arse in a heartbeat. He would spin off his defender and be at the rack so damn fast it was ugly. One of the most under rated players of all time. As you can tell, I am a big fan of Worthy. All the way back to his college days at UNC. Jordan the accolades for hitting that last shot against Georgetown. But Worthy and Sam Perkins were the better players on that team. Damn I even forgot too add Sam Perkins to the 80s list.

You think Durant could have driven to the hole against the 80 lakers front court? Negative. Dare I even mention the Bad Boys or Bostons Front Court?? Hell...not even 80's Portland Front Court!

But, To answer your question....Big Game James.

Rick Mahorn, Rodman and Bill Laimbeer...

Those players you listed are easily over a 15-17 year span. Come on man. David Robinson and Glen Rice only played 2 months in the 80ss. Mitch Richmond is basically a 90s guy. Then you list cats who had only a couple good seasons. Lionel Hollins averaged 11 pts and 4 asts over his career as a PG.

Rick Mahorn, Rodman and Bill Laimbeer...

They didn't kill Jordan, 'Nique, or Regge Miller who were all 40-50lbs lighter than LeBron.

Yall are telling tall tales to these youngsters like Kendrick. I grew up in that era and I know.

All ya'll screaming about how these 80s and 90s defenses were tough fail to remember that Jordan averaged 37 points a game in one season in the mid-80s playing against those same cats you tout.

Not to mention, the average PPG in the NBA in 1989 (just picking a random year) was 109. Where was this defense? Seems to me nobody was playing much of it. The Jazz led the league in OPPG with 99.0. Compare that to the 2012 Bulls who led the NBA with 88.2.

Them cats were smarter too. And the league was different then.

Grew up in that era as well. Burying my 30's this Dec.

I guess tomorrow, the old farts gon be saying NFL players back in the 70s and 80s were better back then, than they was today. LMAO

The point is they all played in the 80s. Even if you take big Dave out and Richmond those guys still played in the early 90s with most of the same 80s cats like Jordan, Ewing, Barkley and others. That's why I did the 90-95 breakdown of who was in the league. Even in the 2000s yall can list Shaq and other still in their prime. I even did that on the other list. Yall can't have it both ways. Either you going to have some over lap because folks played a long time or have players on both lists. You know the 2000s aint on par with the 80s. Bird and Magic played in the 90s for a couple of years at the end of their career but they played. Just like KG, Paul Pierce, Kobe, Duncan all came in the late 90s but still are playing now just like old arse Jason Kidd. Just look at the All Star link I provided and it is clear that the better players played during that golden era with no expansion and players didn't run to the NBA out of HS so easily nor left college after 1 year. Just a better product overall.

Not at all. In football, the players are bigger and faster than the old days. You can see that. You can barely find a 7 foot center that can play worth a damn now in basketball. But football, these kids are definitely in beast mode. That's why mofos are getting jacked up. The Qbs are more accurate, the rbs can easily get a 1000 yards which has more to do with the 16 seasons. Ray Lewis can play in any era. So can Adrian Peterson. Hell he would be more dominant if he did play back in the day. You just didn't see RBs like that in the 80s. So you get no argument about that from me. My old school vs new school argument is only for basketball. Not football or baseball.

Man, these old farts talking about the old basketball days, i know you see how Tyler hit Wade, Haslem hit Tyler, and Pittman hit old boy with the elbow.

Points per game are down because the league plays at a slower pace now. If you look at points per 100 possessions, the difference is only a couple points.

C'mon on now. Lebron lets folks like Deshawn Stephenson get in his head. Nobody said Lebron don't have the physical ability. His deal is mental toughness. He needs to get mad more. And I bet you money if the rules were the same as the 80s, Lebron would not like that isht no more than Jordan and the others. Pippen was punked out for a few years until he hardened up. LOL.

You guys just need to stop. You only have a handful of current NBA players who will be considered the greatest players of all time that started in the NBA in the 2000s.

Which leaves Kobe, KG, Pierce, Allen, Duncan and some others out since they got to league before 2000.

Right now of the 2000s draftees, it is probably Lebron, Carmelo, Wade, and Durant who are on pace for those kinds of accolades when they do a greatest list like they did with the top 50 players a while back. I am sure a few more given some time will get their's. But those are ones who have so far warranted the great tag. Others may be all stars but not on pace to be considered a great.

But just look at the list of players DRAFTED in the 80s who ended up being great NBA players who can be considered to be some greatest of all time players at their positions

Worthy
Jordan
K Malone
J Stockton
I Thomas
J Dumars
C Barkley
D. Wilkens
C Drexler
C Mullin
H Olajuwon
D Rodman- yeah I put the worm on here. LOL.
Pat Ewing
David Robinson...drafted but didn't play until 2 years later

I am sure I left some out.

i am glad we can agree to something.

You had to play one on one then. So bad defensive players can get exposed. If you changed the rules back to the way it used be, you would see some of the same thing. That's why I think players like MJ, Dennis Johnson, Gary Payton and others were better defenders because you couldn't play that zone and they would call that illegal defense on your arse in a NY second if you tried some stuff. Pat Riley was notorious for it. Michael Cooper was an excellent defender. 6'7 and long with speed.
