I tell you what........go up to Boston or even New York......go in an Irish pub or wrong part of town, or maybe walk around with an Italian girl and go eat in one of those REAL Italian restaurants or similar..........and then get back to me about racism.

I disagree. The northern bigots will smile and shake your hand, and then stab you in the back. They have perfected the art. Southern bigots more likely will let you know they hate you or not talk to you in the first place. I have had my experiences.
 
Well I am referring more to the corporate types of southern folks. Those are the ones who hurt you. Not Rick and Bubba with the pick up truck with no teeth. They can't help themselves, let along help a brotha.

Boston is bad........ The sad thing about the East Coast is that the other ethnic backgrounds hate on each other. Irish and Italians don't like each other and a lot of them hate blacks then you have all of them hating the Jewish community. Now I had a job interview back in 02 time frame with Con Edison in NYC. Those cats had me in the Mom and Pops Italian places. I thought I was in a scene from Good Fellas or the Sopranos. LOL.

Yep. That's how it is in the North. Some are really cool and don't roll that way. I have a few Minnesota white co workers that I have hung out with over the years and they are just nice folks. Then you get that group that will smile and grin but try to get you if they can. But I can see them a mile away. You can only fake so much. I guess I learned it early on having to live with them mofos in the Navy.

Yeah Bubba and nem just are ignorant. The rednecks who have money or power are ones that you definitely have to be wary of. Most I have found to be okay once you let them know you are about the business and aint trying to be in their world so to speak. Meaning not trying to get them to accept you. Secretly them mofos still envy some of the things about us though. Now even the Southern white boys want to be cool. LOL. The old heads are a lost cause. So can't hide the fact they hate to see a black man in any kind of good position.

I only modified your statement a lil' bit to accurately reflect the undergraduate environment for black males on athletic scholarship @ predominantly white colleges/universities. :D :tup:
 
The venom displayed toward Jordan Jefferson and other student-athletes is an unfortunate part of fandom. People think this mentality only exists in the South or just in college sports. Not by a long shot. Again, folks live vicariously through these teams, athletes and schools.

In a way these entities define them as people. We tend to forget in the grand scheme of things that the winner of the BCS National Championship Game or the Final Four means little. Sports are supposed to be a distraction/entertainment from the struggle that is life. But on too many occasions we bring the ugly into sports.

I hate that these kids are placed under so much scrutiny and pressure. I hate that these cats, who don't get fairly compensated for their labor, are ridiculed for failing - even at the lower levels of intercollegiate athletics.
