Rick Perry says Texas A&M is talking about SEC move

I would take Missouri because you could get the St.Louis and Kansas City Market as well. Clemson and Florida State won't deliver you a another big TV market like Missouri can. Having Florida State in the SEC wouldn't intensify the rivalry, both schools already hate each other.

Looking at local TV markets alone is shortsighted, especially considering that neither St. Louis nor Kansas City are huge markets. A successful Florida State football team draws eyeballs nationally, the same can't be said about Missouri.

Clemson president says Tigers not leaving ACC

clemson-purple-football.jpg

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson University President James Barker says the school is not changing leagues, despite reports the Tigers might head to the Southeastern Conference.

Barker said Saturday that the Tigers have no discussions with the SEC.

"We are committed to the ACC," he says in a statement. "We have had no contact with the SEC."

That would be a step down academically.

Exactly. Joining the SEC very well may be a step down athletically, too. Other than football, the SEC really does not have much to offer either Florida State or Clemson. The ACC consistently, from top to bottom, is home to great men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, and lacrosse,

Money. Football draws more revenue than all those sports combined.

you got to be kidding me.... not much to offer? put the ACC national championships from this year... and then put the SEC national championsihps from this year.... You can even go back the last 5 years.

You sure? Men's Basketball is definitely on the come up with Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt poised to be Top 10 teams. Women's Basketball has Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Vanderbilt. The SEC just finished with the Top 3 teams in the nation in baseball and 2 of the Top 3 in softball. The SEC doesn't have Lacrosse and Men's Soccer, and I am not sure Florida State and Clemson do either. What about track and field, swimming and diving, gymnastics, tennis, and volleyball?

The SEC doesn't need Florida State. Half of the teams in the SEC draw national attention. It wouldn't make since to get a school in a state which you already have the flagship school. Missouri would bring another region to the conference. St. Louis and Kansas City is a lot larger market than you think.

I said from top to bottom. The SEC does have a premier program or 2 in several different sports but the ACC is a more competitive conference in each sport.

1. Men's basketball will always belong to the ACC.

2. http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/rankings

3. Both conferences have 6 teams ranked in the Top 25 in baseball. The ACC is usually a stronger conference for baseball:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/rankings?key=BBDUSABB

4. The ACC doesn't do gymnastics the same way you guys don't really do soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey.

5. I'll give the SEC softball and track.

I never said they needed FSU, I simply stated that they bring more to the table than Missouri, and they do. Missouri doesn't have a following outside of Missouri, what region are they bringing? Kansas is a bigger draw in Kansas City than Missouri. That being said, I know exactly how large KC and STL are, and why they're both defined as small markets. If having a second school in a state is an issue, then the SEC should get rid of Auburn, Mississippi State, and Vandy tonight.

Great Move for my school....Texas A&M and the SEC, they will be competitive.

As other's have stated, Overall Athletic program is the 8th Best in the NATION. 2011 Football program back on the rise...ranked #9 in the coaches football poll. Not to mention one of the top fan bases in the country that consistently puts 75-80K in a stadium even during down periods. There are plans to expand Kyle Filed to 115,000 thousand, it's already one of the toughest places to play in the country, which would make it the largest football stadium in the country.

SEC get's access to more TX recruits, A&M get's better TEXAS athletes who want to stay home but play SEC football as many Texas Athletes have family ties to the old south.

Basketball wise, A&M would be in the top tier of SEC programs behind KY, and UF. Same for Baseball

JR,
I know all about Clemson and remember when they won the title. :vomit: Growing up as a fan of UGA, I used to hate Clemson. I remember the UGA/Clemson rivalry as being big (they're less than an hour away from each other) but I don't think Clemson is any more attractive than South Carolina. USC is the flagship. As for Atlanta, as close as Clemson is, it doesn't seem to have a big presence here at all. Auburn is a lil further, but Auburn is HUGE in Atlanta.

Florida State and Maryland are probably the only two BIG schools in the ACC followed by VaTech and NCState. A lot of schools in the ACC are small...like BC and Duke. Duke is really a grad school. But I will say that Clemson rolls deep to the ATL when they like Tech. They are our favorite team to play and we got em for Homecoming this year. I'm just not sure that any ACC schools would be a good fit for the SEC. We are about basketball first and that won't change. However, when it comes to ALL sports, I don't thnk you can find a better group of schools when it comes to bball, football and baseball. I think the SEC would be better served going to an Oklahoma etc.... TAMU does not fit into the SEC profile to me.

The ACC hasnt won a baseball championship since the 50's .

Duke has an enrollment of 14,000. The smallest school in the ACC, and in FBS, is Wake Forest with 7,000 students. Most of the ACC schools have tougher admission standards, like the Big 10, but they are still about the same size as the SEC schools, excluding Florida's 51,000 student body:

ACC Enrollments vs. SEC Enrollments

bruh Clemson is an hour away from Atlanta... they SHOULD roll deep lol

Show me one team in the ACC that is better than Tennessee's women's basketball program. How many titles has the ACC won in Women's Basketball recently? Maryland won 1 a few years ago, and that is it. Duke has yet to make a splash, even Baylor and Texas A&M have managed to win titles.

In men's basketball, all the ACC has is North Carolina and Duke. The rest of the teams are very average. Every once in a while Maryland or Florida State might step it up, but it isn't as strong as you are saying.

The ACC cannot top the SEC having the top 3 teams in country. I also believe the SEC has won 3 straight national titles in baseball. If the ACC is the stronger conference in baseball, please tell when was the last time they won a national title. Florida State, Virginia, and North Carolina are some great programs, but they have yet to win a title.

Nonchalant is a Carolina boy to heart....nothing wrong with that at all... he just made a blanket statement before looking up facts.... The ACC is in NO LEAGUE with the SEC athletically... and every ACC president knows that.

Personally I think the move that Texas A & M is a good move. The big 12 is breaking down and just think...who will they add to keep a power ranking? La. Tech....Houston....Rice...SMU....Tulsa.....New Mexico State.....LOL.....

The Big 12 is no longer enough...Heck if I was Texas I would bail to the SEC....LOL

If the Big 12 is going to stay together, they are going to try to make some desperate moves. Teams on their watch list:

1. Notre Dame (might as well try even though we know they aren't going anywhere anytime soon)
2. BYU(if you tell them they could keep their network, they might listen)
3. TCU( I don't know why they didn't wait)
4. SMU
5. Houston

Also the Big 12 is going to want to have a conference championship game soon. If you have #2 Oklahoma at 11-1 and #3 Alabama 11-1 going into championship week, the SEC championship would give viewers another look at Alabama and could enable to jump over them. If that happens enough times, they will make a move.

They have had plenty of teams since then to advance in the CWS and onto the title game. UNC went back-to-back years a few years ago. The conference is usually strong in baseball.

But not stronger than the SEC. The SEC actually wins the national titles, not just advance there.

I don't know, Vanderbilt and Alabama are looking pretty strong too.
