So let me get this straight...GSU and SU men's bball can compete and win the Bball tourny but can't go to the NCAA tourney. But JSU and SU's football team can't compete in the SCG which leads us to nowhere anyway!??! :lmao:

Gsu and Su are banned from the SWAC tournament, so they can't go to the Big Dance.

They can win the reg season title because they are eligible to compete in the reg season, but not the playoffs.

As for football, technically (as I was told years ago by a SWAC official), there is no such thing as a regular season (or divisional) title in football.

How is it that the men’s basketball programs of GSU and SU can compete for regular season titles, but the football teams of J-State and Southern can’t do the same?

I don't see how/where there is a regular season title in football. The SWAC title is determined in the SWAC Championship game.

In a recent (June 10th) chat exchange I had with someone from the SWAC office
on Twitter, it was confirmed that while the Grambling and Southern men’s
basketball programs are banned from post season play, they are eligible to
complete for a regular season title. In a follow up conversation with Tom
Gailbrath, Assistant Commissioner for Communications, he too confirmed that
both teams are eligible to play for regular season titles

Well that in itself just confirms even more just how poor the leadership is at the top and evidence of what has happen to our conference.

The SCG is extension of the regular season and not consider a post season game which was made clear by the statue posted by Jafus and made even more humiliately clearer by the SWAC office to allow GSU/SU to compete for tournament title in BB.

It can be said that the statute that Jafus posted says that the SCG is indeed "post season"

And unless I read it wrong (and I don't think I did), GSU/SU won't be competing in the SWAC tournament, the "post season". Just like SU/JSU won't be competing in the SWAC Championship Game, the "post season"
 
OK once again, one is a post season play (game) sponsor by the NCAA (which they banned the schools from) the other is a conference post season game (more precisely extension of the regular season) which the NCAA didn't ban any school from.

umm, I would say they win the title. And I would also say that conferences with no championship games are not set up on a divisional format either.

Did the NCAA just say "postseason ban" or did it say "postseason ban on games sponsored by the NCAA"?

Everybody play everybody under the 9 game mandate. The team that kicks the most azz, just like in the 1980's and early 1990's is the SWAC champion in the regular season. The SCG is a useless, un-needed game with the 9 game mandate in place.

Exactly.
The only reason divisions exist in a 9 game format is because the dummies making the decisions can't see past their nose. Divisions need to be scrapped just like the SCG if they gonna mandate every school in the conference play each other. It make no sense at all to have divisions and a SCG if best team in the conference is determined during the regular season.

mh, you know you need to leave the NCAA outta this. They didn't ban anyone from the SCG, regardless of what the game is considered. So, the NCAA's ban, to the NCAA, didn't include the SCG.

You're talking about things as you would like them to be. I'm talking about things as they actually are. And right now, we have a SWAC Championship game. The winner of that game wins the title. Not who wins the most during the regular season.

I wouldn't count on it. They have 7 years of historical penalties and they can still be our champion. PV won the SWAC after 4 years of sub-900 APR. Grambling should be banned right now for all the years they had low APR, yet they got no NCAA penalties. All we can do here is worry about our situation since it is obviously different from everyone elses. In the end, we will be better for it.

And that is why I repeatedly say this conference and the decisions the people in charge make are azz backwards. :nod:

You can hate the SCG all you want, call it useless all you want, but that doesnt change the FACT that right now, the SCG determines the SWAC champion. Again, I'm talking about things as they actually exist.

uuum, I didn't know that. That should not be allowed. The reg season champ gets an NIT bid.
