Outside of the size of the programs and pay, these guys make pete Carrol and John Calipari look like rookies when finding another job after each screwup. They are never unemployed.

Those mofos could sell some beach front property in Kansas. They could probably talk a Nun into giving them a BJ during Sunday School.

Former Alabama State head football coach L.C. Cole said today he has accepted a position as the head football coach at Jeff Davis High School.

“I’m very excited because I think this program can be a winner,” Cole said. “I know I have some work in front of me but this program has the tradition and history behind it to be great again. I'm looking forward to getting it back to that level.”

Travis Pearson coached Jeff Davis to a 3-7 record last season.

Cole served three different stints as a collegiate head coach.

He coached at Tennessee State (1996-99), Alabama State (2000-2002) and
Stillman College (2009-10). He was fired from Stillman in December. He finished with a 7-15 record in two seasons at Stillman, but won his last two games and three of his last four.

Cole was a two-time Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year at Tennessee State and earned national coaching awards for NCAA Division I-AA in 1999.

He finished 20-15 at Alabama State, but he was fired in 2003 in the midst of an NCAA investigation into the school’s football program. The NCAA placed Alabama State probation for five years — later reduced to three years — and required Cole to attend compliance seminars.

Cole also said his brother Johnnie will be on the Jeff Davis staff as offensive coordinator.

Johnnie was fired as head coach at Texas Southern University in April in advance of a NCAA report of major violations committed by the school.

Cole, who played quarterback at Texas Southern from 1982-85, finished with a 19-16 record in three seasons and a 34-32 overall record in six seasons as a college head coach.

He led the Tigers to a 9-3 record and the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 2010, the school’s first outright conference title and its first championship since 1968.

Well! one thing is for sure, the high school stands will be better attended this incoming football season and the JD Volunteers will probably put on a show. Lanier High QB transferred to JD last year and all he needed was better coaching and more well designed plays. It should be an interesting season. Pearson had to work with what he had, but there could have been better plays.

Woah...This is interesting to say the least....unless I overlooked it in the article, L.C. Coached Sidney Lanier in Montgomery for a season or 2 and had some success. I don't know what Jeff Davis has done in the last couple of years, but back in the late 70s and througout the 80s and even to the mid 90s, their program was solid...

Re: Cole Brothers

These dudes are very tenacious... and These Schools hiring them are "Dumb az Hell"

Re: Cole Brothers

Question: Are you basing your response to their hirings due to "on-field" issues or "off-the-field" issues?

Because quite frankly, they've been pretty damn good on the field.

Re: Cole Brothers

Glad to see the Cole brother's on the move again. He also won at Lanier HS. It's hard to keep a great coach down, no matter what other's think. Congrats L.C. Looks like another run for a Alabama HS state Championship..

that was back when JD was the largest school in the state. JD use to have "Hoover" numbers are far as players.... now JD is like a "normal" high school....... basically it has turned into an all Black inner city school now.

If anyone can turn this school football program back into a winning program the Cole Brothers can!!! Great hire!!
