TSU Starting QB Held Out of SWAC Title Game

Says that TSU is following school, SWAC and NCAA rules with this one... is there more to the story?

Comes one day after this great story from the Houston Chronicle

Birmingham, Ala. - FOX 26 Sports has learned the Texas Southern Tigers will play Alabama State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game Saturday without starting quarterback Arvell Nelson.

TSU athletics officials have chosen not to allow Nelson to play.

In a statement from the school's athletics department, released to FOX 26 Sports, TSU explained its position, but did not go into detail.

"Texas Southern University has discovered issues regarding TSU quarterback Arvell Nelson and his ability to participate in the SWAC Championship game. Because of concerns, the university has decided not to allow Nelson to play in the game.

That's my reaction... the first paragraph makes me think one thing and then the second paragraph I quoted makes me think another....

"Texas Southern is dedicated to adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the TSU football program, athletics department, Southwestern Athletic Conference and the NCAA."

So is considered ineligible ?

If he is considered ineligible wouldn't he be ineligible for the season and make them forfeit the games he played in.
 
Dayum TSU!

More than likely he didn't made the grades this semester when grades were released last week or earlier this week. This has to be a heart-breaker for TSU!!! Look at it this way, at least you won't have any interceptions this game.
 



Thats what i was thinking even if they completed classes this week to have the grades in to mark him ineligble yesterday. Oh well good luck on that

This will really show what TXSU is capable of, Nelson is the one that whipped our azz because he was so mobile. Bama State has a much better chance now.

Bama State offense won't be able to score on TxSU defense.

I will say
TxSU offense vs Bama State defense - Advantage goes to Bama State although TxSU has a good running game
TxSU D vs Bama State offense - Um, TxSU!!! Bama State scored 21 against us, and then 17 against Skegee. That is not good.

I bet GR is hell hot right now because JSU got cheated by not one but TWO SWAC teams.

...Texas Southern cheated my Alcorn Braves, too. Alabama State couldn't do that because we blew their azzes out.
