Have you guys ever considered playing a football game U. Central Arkansas. Considering the distance between the two schools wouldn't this game generate some interest? Just curious.

This game has been tried but it was jinxed from the begining! The last few games were played in Little Rock the weather was so terrible ,(tornados, thunderstroms total washouts)! Most fans could care less about playing them & they think their to good to play us now that they are FCS. Plus they will never play us when they think our team is
going to be pretty good! So it is best to let each other do their own thing!

I don't understand such things but I guess it's the same as you all not playing other LA 1-AA teams on the regular. I don't get it. I do understand the whole thing about their not bringing fans but I think games like that take time to develop. I was a strong advocate for JSU playing Delta State even tho they are D2. I think that anytime you have good teams close by, you should play them. I think that is where our commish lacks a little vision. When we had 7 game formats, he should have given certain directives.

No argument here. I think there is great potential in playing NWst (which is less than 90 miles apart). You are right, it would take some time for games like this to develop. The last two meetings did not go well due to weather related reason. The first game was moved to a Sunday due to one of the hurricanes we had (forgot which one). And the game last had weather related issues.

At the end of the day, its about $$$$. If both ADs are smart they would get together and make this work.

1. We don't have an AD
2. Both of them ain't gone be smart. One or both of them will be dumb as hell. Kind of like now.

Yeah, I thought about that as I was typing the post. But hopefully the new person will consider this option going forward.

When Curry was AD they tried to make a classic out of it on labor day weekend In Little Rock)it lasted one year. The turnout was ok considering the weather but Curry forgot when labor day was the next year had them booked on the wrong date (same year as the SU scheduling fiasco). If it were to happen again I perfer a home & home arrangement.

UCA has a recruiting edge and better facilities. It wouldn't be a good thing for UAPB. UCA has 12K students, UAPB 4K, it is an uphill battle in which UAPB simply don't have the resources to compete. UAPB has everything to lose playing UCA, mainly in-state recruits.

huh? It's UCA man. Not Ark. State or UA.

I think Jones should be made to play Jacksonville State until he beats them. Cooper beat them, why can't Jones?

I feel where Sperm is coming from, but we can't let these schools distance themselves. We got to play them, beat them and compete against them for students and student athletes. To each their own preferences, but I wanna play more FCS conferences and ANY of the in-State La. schools in the Port City Classic. Would be good if LaTech came back for a rematch this year...I think the crowd would grow!

We can't compete with those pwc in Ark. We tried to play Henderson State and Monticello in recent years and it was a total embarrassment. On the other hand, I do believe I'll basketball team would set the gym on fire if we had the opportunity to play them:clap::clap::weee:. Our football team should just take a knee and sit down!!:shame::shame:

why can;t you compete...the water is colder in Conway? In Arkansas, UCA is the only FCS school along with UAPB so it should be a field day once UA and Arkansas State choose who they want....

In Texas...you got

BCS
BCS wannabes
FCS trying to be BCS wannabes (our biggest threat now - UTSA and Texas State)
FCS schools
D2s who can recruit thugs
JUCOs who can recruit just as well

In my oppinion, it has to be a very poor coaching staff. They just don't seem to have the ability to develope or recruit players who are able to compete with those schools. Over the years we have had pretty good players, but not enough of them at one time to produce a winning team.:shame::shame: A lot of our alumni don't enjoy our team playing those schools because we know what the outcome will be. besides, we don't want to face the embarrassment on our jobs monday morning.:shame::shame:

Tell me about it! Dayum PB folks yall better than this!

Not everyone shares gliongirl's oppinion, I believe we can complete and welcome the competition. But some people still have that mindset that they are not as good as the other folks. I believe i'm as good as anybody and better than most!!!!

I disagree uca really doesn't recruit Ark. as much since they have gone DI, if you look at their roster they have more kids froms from TX, south LA and Mississippi juco's. We haven't gone head to head with them to much but when we do we got our share of players. Their facilities are not any better than ours but what they do have is more support staff which makes a differences.

I know it's late at night Mr. Glion, but the question was about FOOTBALL and not your personal accomplishments. You know as well as I do that we have already played DivII henderson state and monticello as well as UCA this decade. Surely you remember the outcome and the scores. It wasn't a very pretty picture was it?? A complete embarrassment is an understatement:shame::shame:. Until our football program is completely over hauled, we will continue to have the same disappointing season that we receive at the end of EVERY YEAR!!:shame::shame:

Serious Question...

Do you think it would benefit both Gram and Pine Bluff to keep the Delta Literacy Classic but expand it to include Louisiana and Arkansas "Chapters" with the games alternated between Little Rock and Shreveport? For Grambling, this would mean two games in Shreveport in certain years which I like...and for UAPB, it would mean at least one game in Louisiana each year (if scheduled initially opposite SU's trip to PB) and expose UAPB to Shreveport and East Texas students/recruits. The game can still be a success for all concerned with such an arrangement. The alternate site might actually boast attendance at each venue. Recent games have been very competitive...we need to expose it more!
