It's been TEN YEARS since I crabbed at PV, and that fight occurred BEFORE I even got there...TEN WHOLE YEARS...
Never really knew the exact details about that fight (seeing that it occurred before I got there), and didn't care to learn them.
I'd MUCH RATHER talk about why PV and JSU haven't met since 19...what...86?
...something to do about some oranges being thrown at the Storm while performing at JSU???

Thames. Just for you to know. PV rarely came to SU and that goes way back to the 80s and maybe even the 70s. The fight was just an incident that probably took the real focus on why they never came to BR. I think they may have slipped in one year in the late 80s if I remember correctly.
Why they have not over the years has always been puzzling even before the 98 incident. I find it hard to believe it was finances. But one has to remember that PV didn't even offer scholarships to their football team back then so it would have been hard to justify the band traveling to all the away games when they didn't even find the money for the players. I don't know if that was a reason or not. I have always felt bad for the cats who marched there that they couldn't take their show on the road.
As for the real truth about the fight. I was in that stadium that night and all I can say it was ugly and folks were in disbelief. Other than that, it was an unfortunate incident that needs no other explanations or excuses. Folks have moved past this I hope.

I guess Tennesee, Atlanta and California are in the confines of the Texas borders. I know Texas is big but it ain't that big.
No they don't pay for the cost of the bands travel. They really don't even show the halftimes shows.
Both schools has gone past this, it's others that keep trying to bring it up.
PV use to come to SU all the time before the incident. The only year that I can remember was in 84 when the band director resigned right before band camp and the school didn't officially get a replacement until after school started.

Frat, I know you guys did not come my Freshman year in 84. 85 was in the Astrodome. I think we played yall in Dallas in 87 and I don't think you guys came in 86. Maybe you did. I only remember FAMU and JSU coming to Mumford in 86.
I know PV did not go to BR not one time in the 90s when I lived in Houston. When talking with old Jukes before me. None of them ever remember PV coming down to BR. I want to say yall came in 88 to SU after I was gone. Now maybe you guys came in 80 or 82 before I got there.
So you guys were not coming way before the 98 incident in Beaumont. Whether that added fuel to the fire not Fiyah, I don't know. Only PV folks can answer that. All I know the Jag Nation has not seen PV in BR in over 20 years.
I can account for the years that I was a student and employee of the university. We did come in 80,82,86 and 88. We played in Houston in 81,83,85, Dallas in 87 and College Station in 89 (SU's band didn't come). After that I was gone from the University and can't confirm anything in the 90's.

LOL, I should have said "rarely" . But PV does not come to many road games. I don't think they ever came to BR in the 90's.
I was like that is the cheapest trip they can take in the SWAC. 4 hours down I10 leave at 10 (tell them eat before they come to the bus) get to BR around 3 or 4. Play, Eat, get on the bus and go home. Get the Caf Workers to fix a bunch of sandwiches and throw them in some boxes with some bags of potato chip. And you can't forget the the bottles of Jungle Juice (red, purple, orange). That's how we did it in High School.

I guess I should have made my post yesterday when I planned to and maybe the rest of this crap would not have gone on.
PV's last time going to SU was in 88 if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure over the course of these past 20 years reasons for not making the trip have changed. For the most part the reason is lack of funding. There's really nothing else to it. As someone said the school didn't want to fund an athletic department so surely they weren't going to send a band to games.

It all started when they dropped football and then dropped all athletic scholarships.

Yep that was either 02 or 03 when PV's band went to Shreveport to face SU...

Not that many care in Baton Rouge because we are used to not seeing PV and for a long time, not caring to see them, why would they come to Shreveport and not Baton Rouge. That's the only thing that puzzles me about this.
If they didn't come to Shreveport, then I would just assume they didn't want to or couldn't come to Louisiana, but making that trip just doesn't make sense when BR is closer.
But like we always say when the opposing band doesn't come .... fugg 'em ... more seats for us.

Dude aint nobody begging, im just saying yall always tryna talk down on a band when they dont show up at yalls campus for a game, every schools band program is not as fortunate to having funding like yours... carry on......

In the end, I truly agree with you. SuTrpt96, no need to turn what I said into confrontation. It wasn't directed at you, per se. It is directed at those who ask the same question year after year and receive the same answer year after year. As Blaque Prince said, over the years, the reasons have either changed, or added onto each other. So there is no clear cut answer as to why it hasn't happened over all those years.
