Re: Sonic Boom/Aristocrat of Bands Pre-Game Battle at the 2009 SHC

JSU's "Hay" is sick in round 2 :clap::clap:

Is it just me, or is J-State sounding more and more like The S??? I like the power and intensity and all, but The Boom did show off more musicality than they are now.

We been saying that... when us "SU" folk say it we get a bunch of batching on here.... We just telling the dayum truth..

Glad you said it though...

I disagree...
I don't think the Boom sounds anything like SU, and that's not a knock on SU, but our arrangements are different.

The BOOM sounds NOTHING like SU..powerful this year YES..No tone of any of the sections in the BOOM sounds like any section in SU's band, not the trumpets not the t-bones, b-tones etc...

All I know is that if you sitting on the Opposite side of the BOOM, you better bring it because They ON IT this year.

I beg to differ. I've been a Boom Fan for a minute, and Dowell Taylor is a good friend, and Ira Vaughn is family. They seem to have opened up the floodgates, and going for broke on everything. LOL!!! That did not used to be the case. When I start hearing the Mellophones , B-Tones blowin and stuff, that is an SU trademark in my opinion. I could be wrong, but I'll have to pull some clips to show and compare what I'm talking about.

ITS 2009..The folks you mentioned aint on the band STAFF and haven't been on there for years. The BOOM is indeed way more powerful and has about twice as much brass now and much bigger in size. The sound they produce still doesn't sound like SU.

 JSU started that wannabe like Southern sh@t back in 2000.

Okay...so you're saying they sound LOUD and out of control and that makes you think of SU.

I still disagree that they sound like SU...but we shall "Agree to disagree"!!! :)

Its crazy....

JSU plays with Power then its JSU wants to be Southern (But JSU sounds Better than Southern.)

Bama St, TxSU plays with power but its ok with SU'ers b/c SU people say they sound sloppy with it. Therefore their Power is not a threat to SU. So its okay for them to Blow.
But JSU plays with Power and its Clean/Balanced then its time to BLOG and Complain about it.

This year, PVU has Power.... and aint nobody saying crap about it.
Lil Ole Alcorn is Small but they're playing with Power all SU says is "They SOUND Good Way to go Alcorn" (not to mention if Alcorn was JSU size then they would be just as loud) but yet they're exempt!
Valley is tiny but they play with Power! exempt!
NSU plays with Power. Exempt!
NCAT plays with Power. Exempt!
Shit my highschool band is mostly white and they try to play with power and they dont know what a "Southern BR" is at ALL! lol

Taylor and his staff is Long Gone. If they wanted JSU to stay the same size, keep the exact same sound then they should have kept they assez at JSU! :D

Everytime a Boom clip is posted on the net those Two SU nuts sign in and Critique them as if they're the band-gods! they only do it to the Boom. (why? B/C the Boom Sounds Better)
They break it down section by section. They spit out 30plus years of Boom HIstory! They say all negative things.
Yet and still this is the band that SU lives to play against year after year.
This is the band that SU anticipate playing the most. This is the band that the band members talk the most noise to.

Get over it people: It speaks volumes that JSU can stay a TOP band regardless of who the Leader/BD is. SU's band has not had the constant change of leadership like the Boom.
But the BOOM remains a Top Band regardless if they're playing Soft and Sweet Like Taylor Taught them Or if they're Powerful and Groovy like Liddell/Murry taught them.
The BOOM is a versitile Band. They're great with power or without!

Can SU say the same? HELL NO!
Let SU change directors (two more times) and arrangers.... and instrumentation. (less brass, more woodwinds) then see what happens. The sound will change.

I just find it funny b/c SU get mad when somebody is beasting with power and sounds dayum good with it. lol
And the Boom doesnt give a rat azz what you (FAMU and SU) think about them. Lets just say if the JSU sounded the way they did in 1988. SU would still complain...

*Man they aint blowing.
*They aint got no Baritones. Where they at, I cant hear them!
*I can't even hear them from across the field

etc... and all that jazz! smh

LOL...you aint get mad did you Trent? LMAOOOOO

One day, just one day, you wont give a damn what people say about you... Sometimes I feel as if the JSU folks feed from validation from SU folks. Its like you are looking for them to accept you or say JSU sounds good.

i beg to differ....

true the band has gotten louder, but that does not make the Boom look like SU...they don't "sound" like each other....in other words, if i put TrumpFunk and S Phi side by side, i can pick out who is who.....

also, in all the arrangements, the feature sections will always be Tubas/Bones/Trumpets...thats how it was written then, thats how its written now....mellos don't ever have a melody line by themselves and Btones will share the melody with either the Bones or Trumpets.....but just cuz you hear them doesn't mean its a change in style....that just means they are doing their part in the arrangement

this thread was about JSU & tenn st.

SU ain't even in the Hall of fame

we shouldn't even be discussing them.

sure did.... JSU feeds off validation from SU..... SU feeds off validation from the white folks... they were ecstatic when they read or heard the white folks say "thats the best band I ever seen"....

Im like WTF...

But how are we supposedly feeding off validation in this thread when JSU posters are saying we do not sound like SU?

I haven't read 2dapoint's post yet...cuz its' long, LOL

The only way they can validate us in this thread is to say we dont' sound like them...:noidea:

I have seen SU band members at JSU games when they have an off week. I see them at JSU christmas parades and such. Do JSU band members travel to SU events. I have heard of SU band members at JSU practice. Do JSU band members do that.

JSU got just as many praises from Dwight man and declared the best band in the land but nobody on here from JSU posted those articles. Why cause who cares.

as a true JSU alum we don't give a rats arse what none of you think. We are JSU and we have always been arrogant. If you don't like the Boom kick rocks. Many a poster on those pages loving everything they hear and see.

16,000 views on a field show since Saturday dayum it's a whole lot of folks not liking what they see..

All I do know is SU is going to be feeding off of all your bands.. So be prepared..

JSU do want SU approval... if they didn't they wouldn't have hired so many of our grads, and they wouldn't have changed their sound...

And who ever said it was 100% right...Da stank of the south did changed their sound in 2000 because of how SU embarressed them twice in 99'... The whole SWAC got to see us skull drag jsu in 99...

And like Casey said, jsu sound is sorta loud and out of control....just like some of these high schools here in New Orleans... they be trying to be like SU too, but both yall don't have a clue as to how SU do what we do...

And who ever gave that "this is 2009" excuse, please leave the band room..
FAMU and SU have new head directors and it's 2009 in our world as well...
We just know who we are.. Two of the best from both ends of the spectrum
