Allen University football has found a home.

The school and Richland County, South Carolina officials reached an agreement for the university to acquire land that will reportedly be developed into an outdoor stadium for the Yellowjackets, according to media reports.

The program, which was brought back to the athletic department in 2018, had been playing home football games at an area high school.

Jasher Cox, Allen’s athletic director, indicated at SIAC Media Day in Atlanta on Wednesday that the stadium would be a significant development for the football program.

“Athletics drives a lot, and we can be a driving force collectively now that this athletic facility is about to come to fruition,” Cox told HBCU GameDay. “Good news yesterday as the land has been acquired, and we can move forward for a goal that’s been in place for quite some time.”

Yellowjackets senior Diquan Brown explained the new stadium will boost the team’s morale now and in the future.

“I think it decreases the burden of having like to go to these other stadiums and traveling,” Brown said. “I think it gives the football players something to look forward to definitely. Because we just got our practice field, having a field of our own, that’s ours, it will just be added motivation.”

Having a true home-field advantage is something senior Teleah Moorer is looking forward to, particularly quieting the fans of rival Benedict College, the current SIAC champions.

“We can finally have Benedict stop talking about us,” Moorer said. “How they have a stadium, and we don’t because now, we have one.”

Allen officials have yet to disclose when construction on the stadium will begin.
