Demetrius Hamilton, Elizabeth City St.
(Sr, DB – Albemarle, NC, #28)
Hamilton led all defenders in the Vikings win over Chowan with a career high 15 tackles (10 solo) including a sack for a loss of 6 yards. He finished the day with 1.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards.
Defensive Lineman
Conor O’Neal, Winston-Salem State
(Sr, DL – Tampa, FL, #92)
O’Neal had another great day on WSSU’s defensive line. He finished the afternoon with five tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry in #15 Winston-Salem State’s 34-17 win over Livingstone.
Linebacker
Christopher Townsend, Bowie St.
(Sr, LB – Washington, DC, #26)
Townsend led the Bulldogs in tackles for the fourth straight game, racking up a game-high 11 (which included 2.5 TFL’s) vs. Virginia Union and intercepted one pass, returning it for a 36-yard touchdown.
Offensive Lineman
Marcus Reed, Fayetteville St.
(Sr, OL – Houston, TX, #71)
FSU had a season-high 568 yards of total offense, including 265 yards on the ground in their 49-14 win over St. Augustine’s. Reed was a standout force on the Broncos offensive line at the right guard and tackle positions.
Receiver
Brenden Felder, Winston-Salem State
(Sr, WR – Lynn, Mass., #2)
Felder finished the day with just three catches for 83 yards but two resulted in touchdowns. Felder finished with three touchdowns on the afternoon as he accumulated 245 all-purpose yards and a 105 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in WSSU’s 34-17 win over Livingstone.
Offensive Back
Andre Montgomery, Fayetteville St.
(Jr, RB – Goldsboro, NC, #30)
Montgomery rushed for a team-high 103 yards and a touchdown off just 11 carries in the 49-14 win against Saint Augustine’s. This is the third 100-yard rushing game of the season for Montgomery.
Quarterback
Phil Sims, Winston-Salem State
(Sr, QB – Chesapeake, VA, #14)
Sims finished the day 12 of 20 for 181 yards and two touchdowns with a long of 60 yards, as the #15 Rams beat Livingstone, 34-17 on Senior Day.
Special Teams Player
Mario Diaz-Aviles, Bowie St.
(Sr, K – Washington, D.C., #89)
Diaz-Aviles was 2-for-2 in PATs against Virginia Union and was also a perfect 2-for-2 in field goals which included the game winning 41-yard FG to defeat the Panthers.
Rookie
Earl Hughes, Virginia St.
(Fr, WR – Chesterfield, Va., #20)
Hughes rushed 15 times for 120 yards averaging 8.0 yards per carry in the Trojan’s homecoming win over The Lincoln University
Coach
Damon Wilson, Bowie State
Wilson and the Bulldogs knocked off the (then) co-Division leading Panthers of Virginia Union 20-17 in overtime by a score of 20-17.
