The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation) has awarded a $100,000 learning grant to Alabama State University to implement a "Data Hub" over a six-month period that will allow it to centralize data storage and build analytic tools.
The Data Hub will allow ASU to quickly run analyses, generate reports, and build digital dashboards to better understand student information and business practices, and support enhanced student engagement and success, which will ultimately contribute to increased University enrollment, retention, and student satisfaction.

DETAILS ON THE GATES GRANT

Bryn Bakoyéma, the University's assistant vice president for Planning & Strategic Analysis, explains that the Data Hub was developed by the University of California-San Diego (UCSD). With guidance from UCSD and others, they will assist with the implementation of the Data Hub at ASU.
"The Gates Foundation awarded ASU this grant to document the implementation process and share the information gathered with other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Alabama to support capacity-building for other institutions and encourage adoption of similar tools to develop improved analytics," Bakoyéma said.
