Tom Herman leads list of 10 candidates to replace Les Miles at LSU

So who are the candidates to replace Miles? It's hard to say with a certainty, but these are most likely the candidates the Tigers are interested in.

The standouts
Tom Herman, Houston: Every school in the country with an opening is likely to check in on Herman, and LSU can now get a head start on its peers. It's not hard to see why Herman is so enticing given his background under Urban Meyer and what he's already accomplishing at Houston -- on the field, off the field and on the recruiting trail. The only question is whether Herman will want to leave what he has built for LSU. He seems to have everything he wants right now, and if Houston joins the Big 12 sometime in the next few months, it'll be even harder to pry him away.

Jimbo Fisher, Florida State: It makes all the sense in the world for LSU to be interested in Fisher. He's a successful coach already who can recruit with the best of them, and he's proven he can groom quarterbacks at LSU. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Fisher to leave Florida State to start over in Baton Rouge. He's already proven he can win national titles in Tallahassee, and -- no offense to Clemsonor Louisville -- I'd rather have to deal with those two schools than Alabama every damn season.

This article says the same thing I am thinking. It may not be as easy as they think to steal a name coach. Now if the Big 12 thing falls through or looks like it will take a long time for U of H. Then Herman may consider it. That Big 12 jump is going to be key.

Nah it ain't like that Herb. I think most are just lol @ LSU and their arrogance in thinking they should be on Alabama and Saban's level every year but don't have Bama money. They are rich. But not Bama rich. Then they think they should be able to take a school's coach that is bigger than them, more money than them and more Football pedigree than them in Jimbo Fisher at Florida State. Winning with Saban and then with Les made them think they have been world beaters for 50 years. They are more crazed than USC, Notre Dame, and Ohio State fanswho has more titles in football than LSU will ever see.

I'm here for any opportunity to laugh at LSU. These fools are already out here floating Art Briles trial balloons.

LOL. What's up JN99?! It would not shock me if they hired Briles. Maybe they keep Orgeron if he wins out and have him hire Briles as a OC for a big price tag.

Will be interesting. Somebody will give Briles another chance. Don't know if it will be LSU or not or even this year. Any administration that brings him in, will have some explaining to do to the WOMEN folks.

Among major powers, I think they're the one fanbase that would be ok with the fallout of hiring Briles right now. Truth be told, I'm rooting for them to hire Briles. A coach with seemingly little regard for general human decency combined with a fanbase with few morals. The eventual implosion would be glorious.

Briles is done for good in major college football.

Logically that should be the case. Of course, these things rarely follow a logical path. This is why schools are going to shake the bushes on him and float it out to see how it goes over, much like LSU is already doing. As much as I want it for the comedy, I'm all but certain LSU isn't hiring him. Still, I've been alive long enough to never say never one someone giving him a chance eventually.

Saban, Herman, Petrino, Fisher, Patterson and Briles

Naw not yet Corey is still there and still weighting his options...But I do and will miss my boyfriend!

If he sits out this year, can he play next year? Is he due to come back this season? Just tell him to transfer on over to North Baton Rouge. I am sure Big Worm and staff will welcome him.

No way. Just watch. He is still highly regarded and he will be back on the sidelines.

Alot of the experts are saying that the details of the investigation was so bad (Not NCAA violation bad) just morally bad. That no decent college Administration will touch Briles. I have heard Finebaum, Herbstreit, Mike and Mike and I think it was Danny Kannell or either Booger McFarland say that Briles is done. Especially Finebaum. He has definitely gone on record with it multiple times that his sources say no way any President touches dude since he recruited kids that he knew was bad seeds with suspect backgrounds concerning women. You see how bad they did Mangino, Leach and Jim Levitt for just having issues with the kids and being in their face. Schiano is now having to deal with folks saying he knew something when he was on Paterno's staff to go along with him being abrasive in Tampa Bay's locker room. So much so, all he could get is the DC job with Urban. So if these guys are having a hard time. Leach is at least a HC again. Leavitt is at Colorado as the DC. Mangino is somewhere as a assistant. I would not be shocked if Briles has to rehabilitate himself as a coordinator before he gets a head job again. Some schools just will not deal with his issues. At least the big boy schools will not turn over the reigns

Glorious you say?!?!?!

Exactly. It's a death sentence. The requirement is simple. Beat Saban and beat him into retirement. Easier said than done. That LSU job will always be there. Aint no way with the current vibe the natives have with their love-hate affair with Saban that I take that job if I am Herman. Especially knowing you are heading to the Big 12 with Casino money in your pocket in a state that you pay no state income tax. Not to mention, maybe you beat Charlie Strong and Bob Stoops enough that one of those programs with even bigger pockets than LSU might offer you their gig. Herman is in the passenger seat of Fertitta's Tesla for now. Herman will eventually leave. But he don't need to be in a hurry.

Fertitta also owns Landry's Restaurants. These fools outchea giving him money to keep Herman lol.

Yes if he take the medical hardship he will come back next year

I just want to know one thing, did Les break down and cry real tears like he did a few months ago when he thought he was getting fired???

LSU's breakup with Les is almost similar to SU's breakup with Pete Richardson. It's kind of hard to let go of a coach that once won it all for the school., but when they are no longer producing what they are getting paid, it's time for a change. In 2013, Les was no. 7 behind Urban Meyer in college coaches salary and Pete was probably the highest paid HBCU coach during his time. I would say Grambling and Eddie Robinson, but Coach Rob was a living legend at the time.

Watch it Unknown1. I get flack for my Ohio State logo in my signature even though I actually went there and got my graduate degree. LOL. Somebody inboxed a few years ago asking why would I have them in my signature. Like it was wrong for me to root for them. LOL. I am pro HBCU first. But I am pro getting an education by any means necessary. But I do hate Ole Piss though.
Yes, eff Ole Miss, although I greatly appreciate them exposing Georgia. lol

The "holy crap I didn't see that coming" choice
Mark Dantonio, Michigan State Spartans : OK, here's the theory. Dantonio has been incredibly successful at Michigan State. What he's done there is nothing short of remarkable. But look around him right now. Dantonio, as good as he's been, is sharing a division with Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes juggernaut and aMichigan Wolverines program that appears on the verge of becoming a real power again under Jim Harbaugh. Maybe now is the best time for Dantonio to move on. If you combine his ability as a coach with the recruits he can land at LSU, well, just think about what he could possibly do there. Nobody expects it to happen, but this would be a home run hire for LSU if it found a way to pull it off.

This is what was interesting to me.

Yeap, Mangino actually made Kansas respectable for a few seasons, same for Schiano at Rutgers. Levitt built South Florida from scratch and had them in bowl games immediately, and the schools didn't waste any time getting rid of them. Art Briles is old, so I just don't see him going the coordinator route to start back over.
